Marrone Anti-Tradition?

Can we confirm whether or not these players are bringing their checkbooks with them?

I'm just kidding. No one writes checks anymore. Plastic will do.

Ya I'm sure Doug Marrone is shunning alumni. Why would he do that? It makes absolutely no sense. Not buying it for a minute because it doesn't make sense.

So all the P era/ GRob guys are not appreciated? I have a hard time believing that. Marrone is an alum, he should be the most open to welcoming then.

It would bother me if guys are not treated well. Its a family. Everyone is apart, not just the guys who won.

this isn't the first time i've heard this. football alums aren't opening their wallets due to the alienation that started back during those 4 years we want to forget.

I wonder if this is related to the alienation of non-locals implemented by our athletic director almost immediately upon his arrival.

Unacceptable if true. I hate that these guys have an issue in the first place, but then again never underestimate the ability of people to feel slighted.

Someone from this board should have an office up there and be the official ex-player welcoming commitee, not even joking.

i have a hard time believing it as well. freeney and pj alexander are received just fine. Not to mention they've reached out to Bryce Beville and Rodney Wells.

Dwight Freeney still comes back and if he's not pissed off at his "treatment" then why the #ck should I care about these douchebags talking about the program.

I highly doubt that if these guys let the program know they were going to be showing up they would have been treated like crap. I mean seriously. Sounds more like showing up out of the blue, in the middle of organized "activities" and expecting everything is just going to stop for them.

Maybe I'm wrong, what the hell do I know.

They have ex-players in the opening video, on the coaching staff, and in the Athletic department.

This would seem too stupid to be true - probably some naive staff member who didn't know any better. If Troy was running zig zag backwards he may have recognized him though?

Being an away game, does the team travel today or tomorrow?

I don't get to wrapped up in this stuff but I think it's pretty obvious that Marrone is loved by the Mac guys and early P guys not so much on the mid nineties - end of P era guys. Exceptions here for sure

Make no mistake about it thoughthe mid 80's late eighties Mac players are all in on Marrone, how do I know? I tailgated next to about 15 of them before the USC game. Lots of successful guys from those days too...

There are two sides to every story. Personally, this sounds inconsistent with everything Doug and staff have ever said publicly.

and those guys probably don't do the twitter thing to refute some of this stuff, lol.

If true, it's a mistake on DM's part.

Took my son thru SU Football facility yesterday, amazed at the dynamic In there now. Pre-Marrone alums are not well accepted #badmove
Is this true? Seems unlike everything Marrone has said he stands for. Anyone have any insight?

Two pages into this thread, I am still trying to figure out how Marrone is involved in this. What is the "dynamic" that the tweeter speaks about? Who is involved? Etc etc.

The thread title jumps to a conclusion and is sensationalist.

In addition, how would one visitor know that only "pre-Marrone" alums are not welcomed? Was he told this? Did he see a sufficient sample size of both types being treated differently? Fails the smell test, lacking any better information.

Well, I think obviously context is really important and could render this entire issue a complete non-issue.

That said, I do sometimes worry about DM in this respect -- the schmoozy, hand-shaking, back-slapping, PR part of the job. We've seen several examples of it to this point and this is potentially another. And, as I have said before, I don't blame him for not loving this part of the job (if this is the case). But cancelling random events like the recruiting thing, disseminating roughly zero info on spring practice, not exactly rolling out the red carpet for former players ... it can have a negative effect. So again, context is an obvious caveat, but I do sometimes worry about DM in this regard.

As for Nunes, I also wonder what the expectation is? I mean, is his kid supposed to get a jersey and meet a few players and kick field goals and stuff? And does that happen mid-week on a game week? I don't really know. It seems sorta entitled jock-ish but I honestly have no idea what the protocol is. I guess I'm torn between thinking this is a legit concern and thinking "deal with it troy."

Consider the nature of Troy's professional life. It appears he is a financial advisor specializing in NFL players. Could it be that he showed up unannounced and his motives may have been questioned?

Marrone is the most pro tradition coach I have ever seen.

He might be anti agent, or anti distractions in the middle of a week preparing for a crucial game, but he isn't anti tradition. Former players should be given special privileges to the program, should be welcomed back with open arms, but there are limits to everything.

Most of all, when there are problems, don't ever take sides against the family. I am very disappointed in Nunes. The magic is gone.

I'm looking at last year's football poster hanging in my garage, which says at the top: "Built on Tradition".

Marrone may not have designed it himself but I'm guessing since it's on their he buys into that.

Maybe Troy should call an talk with Marrone, Gross, Floyd, etc. instead of pulling the "Don't you know who I am" card and being a public Twit.

Using Twitter for this makes him look stupid.

Take care of it in house, otherwise it seems like you just want some attention.

Btw, Quinn Ojinnaka, on one MNF telecast said he was from "Paul Pasqualoni's Syracuse" or something to that effect. I wonder if there is a group that is holding a grudge?

Troy is still trying to bring shame to SU years after he graduated. Nothing changes.

My least favorite Orangeman Ever. Sounds like he got the reception he deserved.
