Marrone Anti-Tradition?

That response from Bart does shed some light. Particularly the part where Troy asked "Why should I or any other guys have to [call Gedney]?"

Sounds like he just showed up unannounced, someone wouldn't let him into practice, and he reacted with the, "Don't you know who I am?"

What do you mean "unannounced"? He announced it on Twitter and gave them 24 hours notice. They should have been waiting for him!

He was going to but he fell backwards and threw his cell phone straight up in the air.

Was at the dome for that game. One of the most surreal things Ive ever witnessed as a sports fan plus the Michigan game stunt, smh. There is a reason why there is a domain name dedicated to making fun of him.

Just further proof that D1 athletics is essentially a business

If you have a problem you don't adress it in social media. Whatever transpired doesnt matter. The truth is that Troy is obviously a problem and doesn't represent the university well. As far as I'm comcerned he's cut from the team that he should have never been on in the first place.

Him doing this is simply shameful and unacceptable. if he had a problem he should have called the athletic department not put it on twitter. Go to Div II Troy where you belonged in the first place. BTW thank's for losing the Michigan game all by your self.

Wow.

Some of you have lost it and making Nines a whipping boy. What about the other 2 guys who concurred? Probably shouldn't have said anything on twitter, but it's obvious from the 3 of them (as well as others who didn't go to twitter) that there is something there that has caused some ex-players to feel this way and carry this opinion.

Nunes played an awful lot of D1 football for someone that was nothing more than a D2 talent. Wow.

Troy was a fricking disaster and the only reason he ever saw the field was Vick got shuffled of to VT.

And he would likely have been a DB if Vick had come. So let's kill the kid because he bailed us out at the position and had as many great moments as bad. Hell, go look at several Pitt games or the VT game amongst others. Kid made some bad decisions on the field at times trying to do too much, but he always did his best and gave 100% for his team. So let's beat him up. What would have happened during those years without him. We sure weren't bringing in top notch QB's.

Things are starting to heat up about this particular subject over at nunesmagician. Will be interesting to see how this develops. Making a mountain out of a molehill? Total BS distraction if you ask me especially as we are entering such a crucial game that could help propel us into (or out of) bowl contention.

So, Troy Nunes showed up to practice yesterday...

People taking shots at Nunes are wrong. Whether he is right or wrong he has a right to feel the way he does. I just hope it was an honest mistake our former players need to be respected and treated well when they come back. Remember legacy recruits can be helpful and shunning former players when their kids down the road could become good athletes can have a negative impact on us. Gordy Gronkowski was a player at SU and none of his 3 sons came to SU I wonder if that is because of his views toward SU. I just hope this isn't true about former Pre-Marrone players , and Doug Marrone is respectful of the former players. I was watching on NFL network a documentary on Bill Billichick he welcomed back former players with open arms and had Russ Francis address the team even though the guy was well before his tenure and treated well. I hope all former-SU players who played here are given proper respect when they come back.

Come on now Bees you know he was option D when Vick backed out. he should have never been a D1 QB it tells you how far recruiting had fallen off that he was even an option. Sure he had a couple of wins but I remember quite a few games he single handedly lost Michigan, VT, BC (4 ints). The fact that he shows up unanounced to practice during one of the most important game weeks of the season tells you something about his sense of entitlement.

And Maloney's guys didn't feel welcomed by Mac and P, and those guys felt alienated when Robinson was here.

Here's a thought, EVERYONE step back and chill out. If Nunes felt slighted, that's his perception. Should he have spouted off on twitter, no, just because he's a former player doesn't mean he has free run. But the kid played hard, was thrown in the deep end too soon, but had some real big moments as well as the negatives, so lighten up.

(BTW. what's with people who can only focus, remember, and store up nothing but negative memories?)

Is Marrone going out of his way to shut out kids who played for earlier coaches, highly doubt it. Could he be more diplomatic and make these guys feel welcomed, probably.

Thing is these guys are head down focusing on a must win game on the road, and just maybe they didn't have time to say hi to Troy and his son.

C'mon Bees the guy is publically throwing a hissy fit and ragging on the football program and current head coach, you've got to expect some backlash.

Yeah he worked hard, but so do washing machines.

If Troy was a washing machine he would be this:

Troy Nunes@troynunes
Road trip to the Cuse tomorrow with the fam. Let my son set foot on the actual field I ran backwards 32 yards and took a safety #awesome

Just one inch from stepping out of bounds before he embarked on the backwards journey. If only there were a little more east-west wind in the Dome that day.

Only relevant with respect to politics. And ex-spouses.

He handled it poorly. he deserves the criticizism that he is getting. he shouldnt have done it on social media he should have called the athletic office. I'm sure there's rules that have to be followed to get in to the facility.

He's the one doing the beating so stop defending him. He's putting down Syracuse on social media. That is simply unacceptable.

Pardon me if I don't consider a couple tasteless, childish tweets a cause for alarm.

Difficult to take a guy at face value when he's airing his complaints in a such a forum (and in such petulant language - "if it weren't for the couple good people up there, I'd never go back").

Atleast Doug is consistent, he won't let anyone into practice still. The last thing this team needs is any sort of distraction right now during practice in a week that's very important to the team's bowl aspirations.

[quote=" Gordy Gronkowski was a player at SU and none of his 3 sons came to SU I wonder if that is because of his views toward SU.[/quote]

Just a guess from having bumped into him but I think he has no issues with SU. I met him at a packed bar (Balloons) during Fallfest in Ellicottville when Rob Gronkowski was in high school. I had no idea who he was other than this semi-older fella looked like he could wreck house or be on a poster for a national rugby team.

We were fighting the crowd to get drinks and I told him he was my fullback and needed to get me through to the bar. He said he played at SU in his day then said his name. I told his son looked like he was going to be something and that I am an SU fan so I was pulling for him to go there. He was amazed I knew him then starting talking sports. He went across the bar and got another son to come over and talk with us - that one played baseball.

Overall great guy and I think his kids going elsewhere was a matter of their personal choices 'cuz he was all for SU getting better and spoke well of SU. But again, this was a mere chance encounter after a bunch of beers.

He was going to get a shot at QB but would have been moved to DB. That is straight from a coaches mouth at a recruiting event. Its not his fault Vick nor anyone showed up. We would gave been in worse shape if not for him. He had plenty of great moments too.

How would Nunes, Ojinnaka, and that other guy have felt if Billy Scharr showed up, unannounced, on some Wednesday afternoon in 2000, 48 hours before a huge road trip, stomping his feet and demanding that the coaching staff take time away from the task at hand to socialize?

This is absurd. In the middle of a work week in October, Marrone's professional responsibilities entail getting his kids ready to win a football game. If Nunes weren't behaving like an angry 13-year-old boy, he'd recognize this and be thankful that someone is working hard to help his alma mater.

Then say that. But you added some of your own venting just like he did.
