Marrone Thoughts

I would have to spend more time before giving a grade, but I don't think there is any doubt that the overall athletic ability of the team is vastly superior to where we were at the end of the 2008 season.

I love Reddish, Morgan, Eskridge, Tulley, Foy, Trudo, Morris, McFarland, Lynn, Davis, Spriull and on and on.

We have a ways to go but we are very athletic.

I found his press conferences to be very informative and interesting. I did not like it when for a few games during the 2011 season he tried to implement the Andy Reid approach - "I have to do a better job" - but I found that if you listened to him, he explained a lot about the game and the coaching profession.

He had a lot of enthusiasm about his job when he first got here, which is why he loved talking about it. When he claimed up in 2011, you knew something had gone very wrong.

Good lord you would think by this point it wouldn't have to be explained that he started with a program that was one of the worst in D-1. What exactly would be reasonable to expect with that starting point?

if you're arguing that he raised the program from lousy to sub par i'll agree with you. he left with a legacy grade of mediocrity minus.

That is just unfair.

I mostly agree...at the end of the day, objectively, his record speaks for itself. It's not as if SU was coming out of a 'Death Penalty' type punishment, etc., albeit some may argue GRob's tenure here equatively placed us there. And, for the most part, The Big East Football Conference during Marrone's time here was a far cry from anything stellar...actually, it was quite the opposite...

We didn't look sub-par in winning two Pinstripe bowls. If 2011 hadn't gone as sour as it did we could have had three straight bowl games.

as you well know you win 6 games ya qualify for a bowl game. (actually 5-7 will get you in under new rules)
and as you no doubt also know the pinstripe is a minor bowl game. yes we won two minor bowl games but were never ever competitive nationally. don't expect a movie or ESPN 20 for 20 about the marrone years.
not exactly the stuff coaching legends are made of is it?
it's mediocrity at best. hello buffalo.

You can't look at the job that was done in without looking at where they started from. That's ridiculous.

perhaps had marrone actually finished what he started out to do i'd give him some props. hey i don't begrudge any guy grabbing the $.
but lets not pretend he (marrone) turned us into a national power. we just lost 56-0.my overall grade again : mediocracy minus.

But it's not "sub-par". Nobody's calling him a "legend". It's amazing how people throw words around these days.

ESPN does "20 for 20" shows?
