Maryland Gameday...

Sucks worse than 2013, but not as bad as the final 4 droughts.

MD is the new Princeton. We'll never beat them playing like we do w these kinds of players & philosophy.

Hope this is an upward trend and not just another blip.

Offense came in on a roll but had exposed Harvard and Princeton defenses which were not great.

I have to think Tillman is the elephant in the room. To limit Cuse to 7 goals (8th was garbage goal) speaks to how well their game plan was designed. McNaney was good but he got staked to an early lead and his defense is stellar. MD doesn't have a lot of stars this year so full credit to Tillman.

It will be very interesting to see how Cornell does on Monday. Cornell has an explosive offense (like Cuse can be) so if Tillman slows them down and beats them, I will just have to tip Desko's cap to Tillman.

Cuse will have a lot of talent going into next year - what they need is more discipline and better coaching which can break down strong defensive teams.

We need better D mids period.

And I hope Ippolito pushes McCool for starter. Ive never been a fan of big tall goalies. Scotties Rogers I know, but aside from cat quick reflexes it makes sense that smaller kids like McNaney are quicker to the ground. McCool struggles on 5 hole. He also struggles off stick high.

One thing I've noticed from the little time Ippolito has played is that when he makes a save he gets the ball out quick and up the field, we have not had that component in goalies for years.

It always hurts to lose, but that was a frustrating game cuz it was basically over in the 1st half. There is plenty of blame to go around for why we lost, including Spallina (he went MIA again in a big game; he was Great last week, but this is more of who he actually is, in terms of not being able to dodge a good defender), Mullen not being good today (good goal, but to lose the face off battle was discouraging because that was our only strength against them; his fall start violations also killed us because we have literally no one behind him who can take the next face off), our defensive communication and slides were not good, our 4 first quarter turnovers hurt, but, in the end, we had our chances but McNamey was just too good. Props to him. He’s an all-time great. At least he’ll finally graduate (it’s about darn time!), so we’ll have a better chance when we make a title run next season without having to face him. Next year is our year. Most of our best players from this year will be seniors, and maybe we can also get some players in the transfer portal. It was an up and down season, but it was exciting and fun (especially the last 2 weeks) and we made a Final Four run!, so congrats to the players and coaches. See you guys all next year. Go Cuse lax!

Another reason we didn’t win is anderson didn’t score. Don’t even think he tried really at all to go to goal today. Know he had one shot down alley. Just didn’t move ball like needed to. To many iso n force feeding to middle. And as always mcnaney just ate everything up that wasn’t getting him moving side to side.

Besides maby ND n duke don’t think there’s a team i hate more n hate losing to more then maryland. Their style of play does not bring fans or grow sport. This slow down waste time just win is successful yes but in no way growing the game. Tillman hope someone steals ur precious(ipad) n breaks it n burns it. May be great lacrosse coach but ur still an absolute tool. Said it before and will say it again “tillman can suck a stinky wet fart out of my a$$!) maryland still bums!

Orange forever !

Good point on the shot selection on McNanaey.

Most of the shots he saved were straight on from the restraining line or no/low angle GLE shots.

All low percentage against decent goalies. Easy stops for an elite goalie.

Their defense just clogged the middle. SU mostly settled for outside or low angle shots because they couldn’t force a slide.

They also wasted too many possessions trying to jam feeds into the crease like it was a box game.

March needs to work on other attack strategies when a defense plays smart on ball and is slow to or won’t slide.

Passing it around the horn for 20 seconds and trying to feed a clogged crease after one or two unsuccessful alley dodge attempts isn’t going to win a championship.

He looked lost

I still believe this was a different game if Thomson or English bury those easy chances to go up 2-0. That was enough to spark Maryland. 2 quick ones changes the dynamic. Next year there's no more of this non redshirt 5th and 6th year nonsense so this team can put it together finally if they hit on midfield transfers. Though I will strongly defend 6th year redshirts next year if Birtwistle gets one.

also if levine can if maby he allowed medical not sure for how many games he played.

I disagree - they got outplayed again by a better team. With the best goalie in D1!
I do agree that they are better, but not by a lot. They play a disciplined style that we haven’t done well with over the years. Army does this too. I think we would have a much better shot at beating Cornell than beating Maryland. Overall I am happy with the season but it hurts to know going in to today we didn’t have much of a chance.

McCool struggled with a lot today. Although he gave up a ton of goals, he made a ton of saves last week. Will be an interesting fall for sure for these two to battle it out. Jimmy left the door open for Ippollito.

Perhaps. But we are mentally quite weak from that not happening.

Great to get to the weekend. Seemed like that was enough based on what was out there today (said without disrespect to MD)
