Maryland Gameday...

Mullen was on a roll. For awhile there he was giving me flashbacks of watching Chris Cercy back when I first got into lacrosse. Didn’t seem fair to me at the time that one team got the ball over and over again, but it was awesome it was the guy on my team doing it 😂

Can’t give enough credit to the fans who showed up last night, definitely looked bigger than the 10k+ they said was official. Reminded me of the crowd for that legendary St Patrick’s Day night game against Hop that ended at the horn. Joey looks lighter on his feet, able to free his hands on the move much easier compared to seasons past, still think Leo at A would be a more effective set up at this point but Anderson’s physical potential is something you have to let grow. Hottle as this teams Salcido? Great take, like quicksilver around the cage. Filardi is just a top athlete, you can see that clearly, to think he hasn’t be keyed in with the team for hardly any time tells me he could be a monster by May. The defense in general was just very keyed into their matchups and the slides were usually crisp and effective; Coach O deserves a lot of credit for last night. Last thing on Mullen, thought he was going to have an all time performance in the first quarter and a half, credit to them for making adjustments, I think other teams trying to neutralize him is going to be very important to counter ourselves. Amazing game, great W, really hope they can keep this rolling, program/area deserve a Natty so much. Go Cuse! HHH!

Perhaps the most shocking part of this game was not hearing Carc declare a 4th string SSDM as having potential to be the greatest to ever play the position.
I was shocked by Quint's hair. He usually has a near-buzz, was wild and free yesterday! I guess Paul commented on it at halftime, but I missed it. (a friend pointed it out via text)

That announcing trio is rough! I was sitting at my local watering hole last year and Anish walked by out the window. He'd done the Duke game that afternoon. Went out and (tried) talked to him, he was not fun at all. I'd tried to hold out hope that he made up ridiculous analogies on the air and just couldn't help himself, talking about nonsense all the time. But to get recognized in a very decidely non-lax town he could have been a lot more gracious. Bumped into Chris after a Duke game at the stadium and he was at least nice, though in a rush to get to the airport.

Lacrosse is still a really small world. If people want to talk lax, especially in the south, ya gotta make a minute to talk lax.

I do my best to dislike him for partisan reasons but this makes it really difficult.
One of my high school teammates and training partners played at MD in the late 90s and I got to see him play at College Park on a few Final Four weekends (a few against Cuse). As much as I hate lacrosse players from Maryland (see: nonsense talk about MD being "god's country" for lacrosse; whining if it's under 50s and they have to practice outdoors), I don't hate Tillman. And I intensely dislike other teams (Duke, ND, UVA) more than MD.

Not to be that guy, but Carc talking about Kavovit on the broadcast last night really tugged at the heart strings. I can't imagine losing your best friend that way. Carc is the best. It's always a better game when him, Anish, and Quint are on the call.

I like Carc and Quint when they don't get too far off topic, they certainly know the game. I'm over Anish although I do think he has cut down on his stupid references to GOT in the recent years. I like Joe B who does games for B10, think he is as good as there is.

Why does anybody “gotta” make a minute for some rando?

What’s really good about this team and what most natty teams have is we have a bunch of really really good veterans on this team. And we have some reallllly good young talent on this team. It’s a really good mix. I hope we don’t peak too early. But we just might be the team to beat this year. We know what we have in our attack, our defense has been ROCK solid early on. If our midfield is consistently good, doesn’t have to be great but good. We’ll make a run to Memorial Day weekend

Agreed. This team is built for now and the future. This is how teams stay perennially great. SU is back!

oh my god the one Maryland fan is STILL whining about Tillman and Maryland "remembering" how Cuse celebrated and what happened for 2 seconds after the game was finished.

Can you imagine being a division 1 lacrosse player for a team with history like Maryland and needing something as stupid as that to stay motivated 3 and a half months later? Embarrassing.

Champions don't need petty motivation, they are motivated by the opportunity to win, regardless the opponent. Sure, it can help a little in the locker room, but the elite level athletes need little motivation to dig deep inside and give 100% for a game.

He doesn't. As I said, he could have easily been far more gracious. He's in town to announce a lacrosse game and 9/10 people in town don't even know what the sport is, so if someone walks up and says, "Hey, that was a great game today, huh?" you think maybe he'd stop and pleasantly chat for a minute. He didn't. That seems pretty weird. I didn't interrupt his dinner, ask for a photograph, ask for an autograph. Didn't ask him for a cigarette or $5.

I can contrast this encouter with the time I was biking through Georgetown's campus and happened to see Desko checking out the field before practice the day before a game. Walked up and said hello, introduced myself, talked about the upcoming season, told him I'd played against him the year before in the Dome. We talked lacrosse for a few minutes, I wished him well the next day and in the upcoming season, went on my way.

If a legendary coach is gracious enough to talk lacrosse with a stranger, it seems like an announcer who makes a living talking about lacrosse would have a minute to...talk lacrosse. That's it.

Counterpoint: Michael Jordan.

Does nobody remember Maryland running up the score on us in the semifinal last may? They were up 5 goals with like 2 minutes to play. Tillman didn’t call off the dogs, they scored 2 more with Alex English getting the final one of the game. There wasn’t much complaining on this forum about it. I mean, I was mad, but it’s lacrosse. The level headed lax-philes on this forum barely mentioned them running up the score (page 17 of the gameday thread)
