Maryland Gameday...

Tremendous win on Friday night. Great to see the Dome rocking, no other atmosphere like it in lacrosse. Credit to all the people on here able to make it special. Best fan base, bar none.

First time I can remember watching Syracuse go at Maryland on offense and think, “they’ve got this.” Obviously 11 goals isn’t a ton, but they seemed to make the most out of their opportunities. Put the Terps under pressure almost every time they had the ball. Just incredibly impressed with the game plan and execution. Also great to get involvement from up and down the roster (members from all four classes scored a goal).

Defense was awesome as well. Huge credit to Figuerias, Dwan and Bolognino. Felt like they had their covers on lockdown the entire night. Even Chuck K, who gave up two goals to Erksa had a strong game I thought (one CT and four groundballs). Felt like the entire defense played with a confidence I haven’t seen in a long time. That minute long man down sequence when they didn’t allow a shot to Maryland was downright poetic. There were some holes obviously (trying to deal with Stobaugh, who did have three turnovers), but man, the potential is so high with this unit. Very curious to see if Chuck stays down low or Beck comes back in. Either way it’s great to know there are options.

Overall just so impressed with the team. Still things to iron out, but it’s February and there is time. Excited to see what comes next. Go Orange.

Finn running midfield, Beck taking a seat after starting the first two games … there is a “team first” vibe with this group.

Heard it was a somewhat subdued locker room after the game … “beating Maryland isn’t the goal, winning a championship is the goal. Back to work.”

Honestly i thought stobuaghs first two goals were more on mccool then Defender. First one believe bowen on him he’s goes down alley n shoots with little cage to shoot but sneaks it near side cause mccool didn’t go straight down. He went down n open sideways which open up near side posts. If he goes straight down or even hugs post all way it get saved (imo). Then his second goal was mccool 100% guessing low n got beat heat. As stobuagh stick was high the whole time cause had sticks n defender there n he had to keep his stick up. Mccool guesses low n he sticks it high. Mccool does guess at times instead of reaction. But i don’t think was terrible D on those goals they forced them down n created low angle shot but mccool opened up n then guessed wrong.

Either way strong D showing n great team win. Really need to get angelo better n better. As teams have multiple fogos who can hold their own n can’t ware down mullen. Need a solids backup fogo to least take 5-6 draws n win some. But long season still see what happens.

If you look at Jimmy's overall stats , they are very strong, but he's also been playing behind a lights out D for the most part. He came up with some big ones late when it mattered most, but so far I am not fully sold against better teams (yes I know he was ACC goalie of the year ..) - Mike Ipp has faster hands and is quicker to get the ball out. Let's see how we go but a switch when needed wouldn't upset me

I cannot stress enough how much I disagree with this entire post. McCool is the guy. He is experienced and has performed well in big games against tough opponents. His big frame and patience allows for a high floor. He has also demonstrated an ability to clear it effectively against a variety of exotic rides.

Giving credit for his stats to a “lights out” defense is an over-simplification of the relationship between defense and goalie. Perhaps they are playing lights out because of their trust of the man in-between the pipes.

Jumping to the small and inexperienced backup because of “quick hands” and “faster outlets” would be a bad decision.

It will be interesting to see if the wrinkles we used will be continued going forward. I definitely liked having leo on the left wing against MD. Anderson at attack did guarantee no double poling of the midfield, but he also felt a little underutilized in the offense, since he is not usually a dodger from x. I think he does a lot more off the dodge when he starts from up top or the left side. Tillman did keep the pole on Thomson throughout the game, even as we had other middies beating short sticks. Tillman doing that should tell you everything about the threat that Thomson is with a short stick matchup. I am fine with either method as long as we keep Thomson as a key piece with a starting middie spot. I do kind of prefer Thomson at attack and Anderson dodging from up top, but I like having multiple options. Leo may have permanently earned the left wing spot with his performance the last two games.

Anderson did not do much off the dodge from x, but he did have arguably the play of the game when he wrestled the ball away from Stamos on the ride with two mins remaining. That play sealed the game. Point in his favor to keep him on attack going forward if he can keep riding like that. He also had a nice offball finish on a pass from Hottle.

Why would they fall any further? It was only a 2-goal game, and the No. 3 team got spanked.
not saying they should of dropped super far but least out of the top 3 think would been normal n unbiased. As gtown won unc won why should team who was 1 n just lost (close game or not don’t get points for almost winning do ya? ) Only go from 1 to 2. i think having them at 4 even 5 been respectable. But it kinda shows little bias towards them n would say same thing how albany lost even by a goal jumps to top 20. When cuse lost in overtime did they only move a single spot down cause lost by 1 in Overtime ? no believe they moved down least 2-3 spots at that time. As said never really or never in pass for some teams score or closeness matter. If cuse would have lost by 2 do ya think they would have drop to 2 if we’re 1 ? No way in hell as said least would drop 2-3 spots Imo. Kinda feels like slap to cuse almost like they didn’t beat them that maryland just had bad game. Or least seems that way to me.

UNC barely beat Jax then beat High Point and Iona. Maryland lost to the 2nd ranked team. If Princeton had won they would have jumped Maryland. Cornell barerly beat Albany so who else should be ahead of Maryland? Everyone knows Maryland is a top team. As for Albany they took the defending champs til the end. How u perform and who u play matters.

Gtown ? only played a game but maryland only beat loyola who wasn’t good. Also jax took two top 20 teams to the end unc n rutgers. Also missing how close or what you lose by isn’t not how they judge never have in pass why start now. Point also unc hasn’t lost maryland is 1-1 unc is 3-0. Not saying maryland isn’t a top team. Said they prob should stayed in top 5. Saying they just lost n to just take them from top to 2nd is bias in my own opinion. All saying think would be respectable to least drop them out top 3. Think 4th or 5th be perfectly fine. Also saying that since it’s maryland they still have the benefit of doubt where they wouldn’t have other teams.

As said if syracuse was 1 n maryland 2 n maryland won by 2 syracuse wouldnt of just dropped to 2. Would bet least would have dropped to 4-5. Maryland is solid n will be top team no doubt. But at this point right now after just losing their 2nd game don’t think it’s justified to drop them only to 2nd.

Cause as of now unc gtown n maryland haven’t beaten anyone crazy yet no. But gtown n unc also haven’t lost. So all 3 teams can be considered same playing field but feel since other two haven’t lost they should least be rewarded over team who just lost. Not saying maryland isn’t top team. Not dumping on maryland (yes don’t like them) but i feel there isn’t justification to put them right behind cuse after losing n only beating loyola.

It's still early so hard to do rankings yet anyway. A few more weeks it will be more legit as teams get games under their belt. Ivy league just started this past wknd. I'm more happy SU beat Maryland and is ranked number 1. Enjoy it and don't let rankings bother u to much. Lol

question is who have they played so far to be unbeaten? competition matters
who had maryland beaten ? loyola that is my point. As of even now cornell has top 20 win n maryland doesn’t since loyola isn’t ranked. That is kinda what saying they gave maryland benefit of doubt tho played loyola n cuse n lost to cuse. Now if played richmond game could been justified being 2. They didn’t play tho. Your saying who ya beaten yet maryland hasn’t beaten anyone but loyola who wasn’t a good team last year. Think least argument that cornell, gtown n unc over a them is fair. At this point n time of season yes early but still should be at this point n time.

mean even hopkins has better win then maryland beating towson n loyola. Grant don’t think they should be top. All really saying think there was clear bias toward maryland n think unfair at this point of season. But i’m done n over with it.
