Matt Park

There's nobody that comes close for me in terms of SU play-by-play greatness than Doug Logan. Absolutely love the guy.

I think Mark Johnson is probably more technically skilled than Matt Park, but I would gladly take Park over him because you can tell he's genuinely emotionally invested in SU sports whereas I think Johnson couldn't have cared less.
Doug Logan has never been replaced. Period. End of story.

I listen to the games on WAER. It's more or less a training ground for potential radio or TV media people. The turnover (graduation) can be a problem as not all the potential Tiricos are as competent.

I'm always annoyed when the radio announcer assumes the listener knows who gained how many yards and is vague about field position or who made a tackle. There's not a lot of great football radio guys that I can recall. Doug Logan used to keep you in suspense while you'd try to figure out if a run gained or lost yardage and what the field position was.

I've never listened to Park, but if you're an avid fan and you're listening to the game on the radio you want to know things like that with some consistency.

I would keep Park if they would get rid of Veley. That dude ruins basketball games with his calls and isn't much better at football.
Park is Bob Costas at his job compared to. Mr.Excitement. Carl Eilenberg he not.
I like when Veley waits at just the precise moment the head official is about to announce the call to interrupt with his annoying babble.

Sorry to be negative after such a great win yesterday, but I was in the car through the first half yesterday and was forced to listen to the radio broadcast.

Just wanted to say that Syracuse University should have the best play-by-play person in the country working for them in all sports. Yet for some unbeknownst reason, it doesn't

I am sure Park is a nice enough guy and I'm sure he bleeds Orange (just like all of us), but he fumbles his words way too much and it is often times unclear what is going on a lot of times during the game.

There were numerous times during the car ride where I had no clue if our player had caught the ball or if it was incomplete, not to mention that the pairing of him and Gedney lacks a lot of excitement.

Again, it's nothing personal at all and I'm sure he's a nice enough guy but it's mindboggling that SU can't find someone that is a better technical play-by-play guy with the laundry list of guys it produces to big-time levels.

Honestly I think hes still trying to get used to calling a game for a no huddle offense.

Doug was classic.

Wrong. The guy isn't teaching sportscaster U because he is bad at it. Park is fantastic.

You don't think his teaching of that has something to do with his close association with the University and Syracuse athletics?

Have you ever heard him call a football game? And actually tried to follow the game while listening? My guess is no.

Again, nothing against Matt. I'm sure he's a nice enough guy. But I'm not a fan.

I think if anyone actually listened to the out of town feeds for alot of other programs your opinion of Parks would go way up. use tune-in or Xm sometime and listen to the other games.. its really amazing how bad many of the radio broadcasts are. and that goes for pro sports too.

Listened to him in the car during a game last year. We had absolutely no idea what was happening.

He'd say "run up the middle" and then trail off into some random train of thought. We were listening to the crowd reaction to find out if something happened that was good or bad.

Call the damn game. I don't care about your editorials.

I've only ever heard him call basketball. I think he does that well, at least.

My judgement might be poor, though, because I also have zero issues with Mr. Excitement. Never even realized he was there until somebody told me they thought the PA announcer at bball games was annoying.

He's rough at times. Really needs to tweak a few things. When I listen to a game, I really just want to know the time, down and distance, and score. Along with describing the formation, and then the action after the snap, obviously.

I enjoy his excitement, and he knows the players well. It's a tough job, he's not perfect but it could be a lot worse. I think he will continue to improve, just like our team. A lot going on that he has to deal with. He just needs to remind himself to let the listeners know who, where, when, and how with consistency.

First world problems.

Football is the worst sport to listen to on the radio. There's too much going on every play. I've never found any radio announcer calling a football game to be enjoyable.

Park is awful. I never know what is going on his because his description of a play is the worst.

I've only listened to Matt do football once and I have to agree with what some others have said. It was difficult to keep up with what was going on in the action by his description, or lack thereof.

I've said this before, but it's a travesty that Doug Logan wasn't on the call when we won in 2003. I think he would have had a happy nervous breakdown on the air.

1 beauty from the ND game I somewhat remember was his saying “Dungey back to pass, throw is behind Philips”….

(you’re thinking it was an incomplete pass) but Philips had actually caught the ball, I was like what?. He’s brutal and it’s like that all game long.

I get being a fan in the booth but the guy just misses way to much during the game.
I like Park being a homer but he needs to say the bad stuff with the good stuff and just get the information out.

Football on the radio is not hard just give down and distance and yards gained on the play. Let your color guy fill in information and then go on. Park is fine on basketball but football he is poor.

Everyone has bad games. I've heard him several times yes. No-one is more prepared than he is.

Agree with this. Inevitably I'm out running errands every Saturday, so I listen to games on SiriusXM in the car. I can't recall one where I said man I wish we had THAT radio team.

Listen to some of the SEC games. It's like listening to an episode of Hee Haw.

Park lacks excitement???

Not sure how you can fault Matt for excitement or game descriptions? No announcer is perfect, with all that they're required to do over the air.

Listen to the highlights - I mean, this guy does a great job. I'm not sure we've ever had a better PBP guy at SU. Count yourselves lucky he's on our side.
