I loved Carl's voice.

I, like a lot of us, went to Newhouse to become the next Bob Costas. One of my friends in High School parent's were friends with Carl and set up a meeting for me with him at a SU basketball game in my senior year of High School. They thought it would be nice since I was going to SU for broadcasting. It was so weird actually seeing the guy's voice coming from his person when that "Voice of the Dome" had been so ingrained in my head for at least 10 years before I ever met him face to face. I love the old time PA announcers like Carl and Bob Sheppard. "Welcome to Yankee Stadium" still gives me chills.

We disagree. If you can tell him less is better it would be great. We don't need the score after each hoop and announcing how many 3's a guy has made.

I never said he was a great PA guy. But he certainly isn't doing it for self promotion or to make the game about himself. It couldn't be further from the truth.

Objectively speaking, he makes himself a part of the game, even though that's not his intent. I know he's excited and enthusiastic.

Carl's a terrific guy. He was friendly acquaintances with my parents years ago, but I'd never met him. The first time I worked a game at the Dome and introduced myself, he gave me a good handshake and said "Ottomets? Of the Syracuse Ottometses?" (OK, it worked better with my real name, but it was a good greeting.)
