Yuck. McDonald should be hiding under a rock somewhere. He's shown nothing in two games. Nothing. Wasn't it McDonald who said he was "overwhelmed" after our scrimmage? I'd say.

I'm 95% certain it wasn't McDonald. I believe it was Lester going sideline to sideline coaching both offenses.

It shouldn't be McDonald's decision. Obviously.

Well, if I'm wrong I'm wrong...but McDonald DOES look overwhelmed, so my point stands. :noidea:

I really hope this is just coach speak. If this is the case what do you think Hunt is thinking? All this stuff about wanting competition, and the best man wins the job is playing out to be BS. 6int's and 12 batted balls by your 5th year SR? Play the young kid who has shown he can be a player, or you might lose him in the whole process as well. If you are going to make the move it is now. Get Hunt warmed up with Wagner and Tulane, there really is no other time you can make the move, it has to be now.

Agree 100%. Also, making the move now and winning two games would give the whole team a boost of confidence, regardless of the weaker competition. If we keep running Allen out there, it'd start to feel like we owe Allen the starts ( because of some sort of promise made). We owe Allen nothing. He's had a legit chance. Time to move on.

I agree Hunt should have his fair shot at this point. As a matter of fact, if the competition was that close I believe it should've been his from the start. But, QB competition aside, I too am nervous about McDonald. The stuff happening is elementary. I would be a supporter if we at the very least looked organized. But, right now, we look unproductive and unorganized. Turnovers played a huge roll tonight as far as the offense goes, that can be corrected. The organization comes with experience, and I'm nervous we don't have enough of that.

Unless you have the next Peyton Manning, you can't compete at a high level in college with a pocket passing QB, below average coaching, mediocre o-line and average WRs. The dual threat QB levels the field and closes the talent gap.

We have incompetent coaches sending plays into a wildly inaccurate statue who's trying to throw into microscopic windows for WRs who can't get open.

It's like we have a bunch of coaches with a philosophy of "Prototypical looking QB + ??? = Profit?

Ahhh, I get it. It's a profit deal!

I think they felt a certain obligation to start Allen since they brought him in. He also generated a little "buzz" given his background.
I would consider the obligation fulfilled at this point. He got his "shot" and can't say, "you guys brought me in just to be a backup?" Anything unofficially "owed" to him has been paid in full.

While you can't hang it all on Allen, by the time he corrects the mistakes he's making (staring down receivers/telegraphing passes), throwing into double and triple coverage, etc. his eligibility will be up, and we'll be starting over anyway. Hunt has more upside at this point, and has the ability to make plays with his legs that Allen can't. Let him have a game to "audition" and see what he can do.

mcdonald must be insane -because the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over expecting different results -

everyone but him can see drew has little to no skill right now

We have a very weak OC he is in over his head at this point. He may grow into the position but he is so lost at this point he couldnt find his ass with a flashlight. McDonald is going to ruin both Drew and possibly Hunt as the Little train crew ruined Robinson. Allen has tools but he may have tunnel vision and that is death for a QB. Watching the game you could see him locking in on his primary reciever. His side arm delivery negates his height. Sure he can see over the line but he might as well be 5-5 as he throws the ball from his shoulder on anything but the long ball. What we have is a mess. A coach who is in over his head trying to coach a qb who needs great coaching and is getting anything but that.

I don't know if its the QB or the OC or both at this point. I still want to know why we didn't establish the run game early and give the ball to Smith more than 10 times?

I give credit to Allen for standing up in the post game presser and taking questions, but by his own remarks, the defense is reading him and he's "slinging it". That is a real big problem. Hunt needs to be the # 1.

I agree with LICuse regarding qb's being stationary and it's tough to be so 2 dimensional now a days...you need a guy that can move.

One problem is whoever starts the next game will do well. Maybe not problem but the next two games are going to be a helluva lot easier and the qb who gets the call will now have some momentum going into the Clemson game. So what I'm saying is that unless Allen completely falls apart we are going to see him vs Clemson if he is the week 3 starter.

He is til he isn't. So many colleges rolling up yards with running qbs and we start a fast statue who throws ints all day

Hunt should get his chance, but I hope everyone isn't expecting Colter or Devin Gardner back there because Hunt's not exactly the "dual-threat" most schools have. Yes, he had a nice scramble last night, but he's not going to be going for 60-70 yards rushing each week.

I hope he plays because I think the short-intermediate passing game is what SU will need to do to complement Smith's running.

I don't Tim play calling has been the issue. Yes, maybe somewhat against PSU. But not last night.

Too bad for McDonald it ISN'T his call who the starting QB is! The HEAD COACH decides who the starting QB is he actually has veto power over McDonald. McDonald has a say in it of course, but for him to say that right after a game is foolish because it isn't his decision. He really is showing he is a rookie offensive coordinator with that statement!

I hope for Drew Allens sake he isn't. The first pick he throws against Wagner next week will have the dome crowd all over him and the OC. It's time to pull the plug. Allen isn't a replacement for Nassib, hell he isn't even a replacement for Paulus.

What I haven't seen mentioned during all the GM bashing is the difference in pace when Hunt went in. They were at the line very quickly with no apparent confusion. Hunt made adjustments and they ran plays without a hitch. In style and tempo it reminded me of last years offense. GM looked just fine, then. Yes, yes, yes...I know it was the backups for NW, but I am talking about execution and pace, not just results. Drew Allen does not look to have it, Hunt does. And btw, Allen's arm slot may be the worst I have ever seen from a QB. From the shoulder? Really?

So my question is a simple one: Is Allen making GM look bad or is GM making Allen look bad, because the offense ran smoother with Hunt.
