MCW 4 assists in 8 minutes...

That's what I like about this team bristol, the different looks/combos we give to see what's working for that particular game.

Yes -- not a common thing in the JB era. I did not expect James to be the key contributor in a second half run, as he was yesterday, with CJ and Scoop on the pine. Or Rak showing as much on the defensive boards as he did yesterday, subbing at center.

James and Rak have shown enough that each should get more chances and can help.

You ain't kidding, JB as we all know has been a 7.2 player usage guy for years but these kids give him a chance to evaluate the situation, see who matches up/playing well and they play the minutes. I credit the kids for being mature enough to except this but winning always help keep potential bad situations at bay.

I'd like to keep Melo at 28 minutes or so and if Rak can give 12 quality minutes, we will be quite happy. If James can continue to have success against good man to man teams, that just makes this team a heck of a lot harder to beat because we know he can do well against zones that lose track of where he is. .

Scoop as captain deserves a lot of credit -- when he gets pulled, he keeps cheering for the guys who are playing and never, ever is anything other than a positive influence. Great example for any of the others who have to sit next to Hopkins when they would rather be on the court.
I agree about Rak -- there were times, and will be times, when he gets overpowered on defense. He doesn't have the bulk to contend with some of the veteran big men, but he is learning. He also has more skills on the offensive end than he has shown so far. Really like his upside and his attitude. Maybe those 1 minute assignments have done something positive.
We can hope James will bring it game after game -- more likely, JB will have to mix his combos because James is the definition of inconsistent. Again, big credit to JB for keeping James in the mix, and to James for working on defense and the boards to supplement his game.

I agree Scoop does deserve a lot of credit for being a positive leader and teammate. It's up to the players if they want playing time and I've always been someone who always believed that, it isn't the coaches that decide who plays, it's the players. James has improved his contributions in many ways other than just accepting being a jump shot guru and guys that want to play do that. I'm hoping to semantically disagree with you is that James is streaky and not inconsistent and that he has a nice 9 game streak heading his way!

Ya you're right inexperience never gets you a national championship...um oh wait it did get SU one. What were you thinking?
Look, McNamara and Edelin were exceptional players from the start and were clearly Boeheims's best options for those guard minutes, and Anthony was a transcendent talent. The moon and stars aligned that season.

MCW playing behind three excellent and experienced guards is another matter entirely, and is not a reflection of any conspiracy on Boeheim's part to limit his minutes. On many other SU teams, MCW might very well have started and played 30 minutes a night. Just not on this one -- and rightly so.

What do the doubters think MCW is lacking vs th other guards? I would say nothing other than he's a freshman. When he plays he simply standsout. There's not much else to say. His talent simply is extremely obvious. He does have the most complete game of the guards. Why he doesn't play more doesn't make sense to me
I don't want to be called a doubter but MCW obviously lacks the experience of the others. And by not having the college experience he needs to earn the trust of JB. He is slowly doing just that. He was bringing the ball up when UConn was applying pressure.
This is obviously an exceptional and rare season. JB has the luxury of several experienced guards returning and a McD frosh. JB knows he has a talent on hand, how many other times has he played his 4th guard meaningful minutes in the 1st half of games.

A benefit of having MCW on the bench this year is the creation of a leader in the future. When you have a McD who rarely played who later takes a leadership role, that role is easily identified by everyone else on the team. This year will help MCW and SU down the line. Be patient, his time will come. JB and SU have the luxury of developing a McD player. The future is bright.

One comment, defense. Dion is not that good of a defender. What he is, is good at getting steals. But he is often in the wrong place or takes chances trying to make a steal on a player going by him and losing his man, etc. Triche is easily our best defender. As to MCW he is up and down and is sometimes better than Dion and sometimes worse. The only clear thing to me is that Triche is the best and Scoop is the worst. Sometimes I don;t think Scoop even makes much of an effort.
And about 70% of Dion's fouls are reach ins.

If you are trying to compare Anthony with MCW as far as ability as freshman, you are in dreamland.

plus, if we take his "logic" to it's conclusion, he thinks Boeheim blew it in 2003 - he should have hidden Anthony deep on the bench to keep him out of the NBA

Have you heard of GMAC? JB has said that MCW will be a high NBA draft choice, I would say that makes him better then Gerry. I think MCW will be more Anthony then GMAC like. You will see my friend.

If MCW goes to the NBA this year then next years backcourt would be a mess. JB himself has said he will be an NBA player. The NBA drafts potential my friend. He is by far our most talented overall player especially guard. I would say he has the most talent of any SU guard ever. Time will tell.

But GMac didn't have Scoop, Triche and Dion in front of him. Before Billy was finally eligible (we hope) it was Josh Pace and a bunch of walk-ons and Pace was more a SF (as was Duany).

MCW isn't going to the NBA after this year.

I know what youre saying but I see MCW as simply much better then the other guards. I think it's incredibly obvious.

But experience does play a role. And he also gets lost on defense a lot, it's what has gotten pulled him before. He does, IMO, have the most potential of the guards and many of us have said of the players on this team, he has the most pro potential. But he's got some damn good guards in front of him who are 31-1.

Don't agree, I think hes the best defender at the top of the zone. He was giving the UCON guards fits yesterday. He got pulled becuase of the JB double standard. Scoop can get lost and stay in the game MCW can't we all know that.

did we watch the same game yesterday?

I'm not saying he got pulled yesterday for getting lost on defense. He did play well yesterday but you're cherry picking one game. He looked good last UConn game too. But I think part of that is the fact that UConn doesn't have physical guards. Boatright is a shrimp, Napier is small and Lamb is a rail. MCW looks 7' when on Boatright. But he has struggled, or not even played, against teams with physical guards. He has been over matched a few times and when he is, it is obvious. You must also forget just a few games ago when he and JB got into it because he got pulled for making defensive mistakes on 2 straight possessions.

Look, I love MCW and he is going to be a star. But you just can't say he is the best guard right now based on what he has done in games nor based on his potential.

I was referring to that game not yesterday. Ive rarely seen him struggle, certainly not more then the other guards have. Look it's crazy obvious he has the greatest upside of all the guards. Moqui I thought it would be obvious to you too. As for the strength thing lets not forget the kid is 6'6" and can provide crazy matchup problems even for so called "strong guards".

Seriously, many posters have given you reasonable responses. But now it's crazy obvious that you're either crazy or just looking to annoy people.
