Let me state early, I don't think this is an example of purposeful UNC bias from the refs/conference office ... that said ...

Our first touchdown, or near TD, it seemed pretty obvious to be that there was exactly zero irrefutable evidence that Custis was shy of the end zone. The replay showed the tip of the ball up against the goal line. I could not tell if he was in or not in.

So, in that instance, the original call on the field should have carried the day. "Call stands."

I also love how the refs placed the ball at the half yard line. We were essentially docked a half yard for almost scoring a TD.

I also severely dislike our fullback dive plays.

As far as 40-37, 2-OT wins go, that one was maddening, but worth it.

did you watch it on TV? They had a very conclusive angle that showed Custis was about a half yard short.

I thought it was pretty unremarkable and the refs very clearly got it right.
What about when Neal fumbled? That looked like the ball never went in the endzone and was recovered at the 1/2 yard line. No review there was there?

seens pretty conclusive to me.

I didn't see it that way. I thought the ball may have been in the white when the knee hit the ground. I certainly could not tell that it wasn't. It was inconclusive I thought. So if they ruled the ball didn't cross the plain surely it should've been spotted right up against the white. That's the way I saw it.

The other replay I wasn't sure about was the Custis sideline catch. Had no bearing on the outcome but man when they froze the shot, I thought his toe was in bounds and he had the ball. Thought for sure that was a catch.

I thought they gave us one on the Dungey fumble/inc pass. It wasn't conclusive to me that his knee was down before that ball was leaving his hand.

Thought overall the refs were fine.

They didn't freeze it like that on the replays i saw. that's a nice shot though.

What about the Custis sideline catch. Do you have that screen grab?

Did you see the screenshot I posted? Curious if that changes your mind at all.

EDIT: nevermind, you commented before I posted.

FWIW, I agree with you on the Custis sideline catch. I thought his toe was down as he plucked it from the air. It was real close though.

I also thoughts the refs did a good job. The game wasn't won or lost by either side based on the refs.

seems to me everytime they rule a guy down a the goaline they mark it at the 1/2 even though inside the 6 inch line would make more sense..

I thought the officiating was fine...the broadcasters however were interesting.

So after UNC kicks the FG in the 2nd OT...our offense trots on the field. Everyone in the building is thinking “advantage SU”. Not the announcers.

The first thing out of the Raycom announcers mouth is “UNC can win this if they can force a Syracuse turnover.”

Seriously? That is announcing from the UNC perspective.

10 seconds later he catches himself and says “of course, Syracuse can also win if they can get it into the end zone.”

No shitake Sherlock.

Odd. Tom Werme is a Newhouse guy.

Did anyone else wonder why they did that up close weird angle when I think UNC was in the red zone, want to say 3rd quarterish. Was one of the worst shots I've seen at a football game...

Yep, they were basically UNC announcers. Incredible bias shown in favor of legacy ACC schools on these broadcasts.

Was Neal down when he fumbled into the 5 yard line? I haven't seen any replays except at the Dome, where it appeared he was down before he lost control of the ball.

It was coming out as he was going down, they had a good reply on TV.

Really? Based on the Dome replay he was down twice before the ball was out. If it was coming out on the way down certainly it wouldn’t have been near his hand.

The player that recovered the Neal fumble was lying across the goal line, but it looked like he secured the ball outside of the end zone. So the ball was close to being down and that went to UNC and the ball was close to the goal line(not in) and they get a touchback.

Yeah it was moving up past his shoulder, one hand was lose and then he hit.
Trust me I wanted nothing more then it to not be a fumble.

Was it Strickland who made the absurd one armed grab in the red zone on one of tommy’s drives?

The only ref-related weirdness I saw was when Neal ran into the field judge. That guy just stood there motionless for what seemed like forever as Neal barreled towards him. Move one foot over for christ's sake.
