Might cut the cord

I can't stand most of the streaming services with ads - I'd rather pay the few bucks more a month for ad-free streaming. With YoutubeTV I can at least fast forward through the ads on recorded shows. The streamers don't let you skip ads and a lot of the time, it's the same ad(s) each break. Not only are most ads annoying, it feels like a waste of my valuable time having to sit through them.

Yeah, it’s always worth it to me to pay more to eliminate ads, even on this site.

So 3 NFL games today.2 on Netflix and one on Amazon. How many subscription services do we need now to watch sports?

I don't think you're missing anything not watching the games today. Zero implications for any of the teams. Tonight, only the broncos have a reason to play. Really bad slate of games.

I agree. However, that wasn’t my point

And even if you pay for ad-free streaming, you're still going to have to watch the commercials for these games (and commercials on streaming services tend to be even worse than on ad-supported broadcast networks).
I doubt I'll watch any games today - I'm generally just losing interest in all sports anymore, especially college sports

All that and I think you still wouldn't see Yankees/Mets/Knicks/Nets/Rangers/Devils.

It is pretty frustrating. My priorities are SU and Iowa sports (My dad went to school there). But even for that, I need YTTV, Peacock and Big 10+. I got deals on a year subscription for Big 10+ and Peacock. Love watching the Bills too, but they are on national tv enough that it's enough for me.

How much money are you guys really saving?

My cable package from Verizon - all their channels, HBO, Showtime - comes to about $120/month.

I get 1 GB Internet (fiber) for $100/month.

Where they rip you off is renting the router and cable boxes. That's about $50/month.

I have Peacock, Paramount, ESPN+, Amazon Prime, Disney, Hulu and Netflix.
I pay $8, $11, $10 for Disney Bundle through Verizon, and $10 for Netflix through Verizon.

You're still going to have to pay $75-100 for fast internet.

I pay about $300 a month, and I can watch literally anything I want.

Some of your guys are paying more than that for NFL Sunday Ticket, or Baseball Season passes or whatever other sport.

If you don't get cable, you're going to save on renting equipment, but you'll probably wind up paying more for the programming you want, because it's all separated all over the place now.

I’m only paying for YTTV right now. No where near 300$ a month! Wow. I’m good.

As far as me personally, my breakdown is

$90 YTTV/monthly
$80 Spectrum internet
$29 for one year of Peacock
$80 for one year of Big 10+

As far the other streaming services, I only get them when they offer deals, so I took advantage of the recent Black Friday deals
$5.99 month for Apple TV for 6 months
$4.99 month for Disney+/Hulu for one year
$2.99 month for HBO Max for one year

I admire your setup, but you have more than I could ever watch for it to be worth it for my personal situation. Quite frankly, I already have too much with what I currently have.

Yeah, but with your Internet access, that's still probably $200/month, and you get the thrill of having channels pulled whenever their contracts with Google come up for renewal.

Those disputes happen with Verizon also. Just google Verizon channel dispute.

Yeah, I lost the Game Show Network and TV Land.
I haven't missed a game I wanted to watch in many years.

I’m simply not doing chasing games across various streaming platforms anymore. Games are happening and I’m missing them. If I have the service with YouTube and Netflix, great. It doesn’t even faze me at this point. My interest is waning.

There's a couple things at play. One, the cost of having all of these different platforms. Two, managing them all and knowing where to find your content. While one has to be in check, the second is the most frustrating to me. I sometimes don't even know a certain game is on because I don't think to check all of my different platforms or don't think to check the schedule of sports events for the day. I miss the day when all my content was in one damn place.

Yeah, this is frustrating. Trying to find favorite holiday movies to watch this past week was a challenge trying to remember which one was on which streaming platform. Roku search was a big help in this regard.

My wife and daughter are avid streamers, so we use pretty much all the services.

The only one we really didn't watch was Apple+ after Ted Lasso ended. All ther Star Wars and Disney stuff didn't keep us interested, and my daughter and I loved that stuff in the 90s.

We also seldom watch Amazon Prime because some of their original content was so awful, and they nickel and dime you, charging for every damn thing on there, after giving you some views for free.

I use Peacock for Premier League, Paramount for all other European soccer (plus USA/NBC, BeIn Sports, etc.).

I have ESPN+ - it's funny but there are different links for ACC sports vs. European soccer content, like the FA Cup or League Cup.

Netflix for comedians, HBO and Showtime for movies, cable to tape stuff from PBS, and sports, of course. I watch a lot of history documentaries - some on cable, but more and more on YouTube.

My daughter likes to watch Japanese and Korean movies and animation, horror movies. We use all of these services, pretty much.

Makes sense. Definitely makes a difference when you have a family watching different things as opposed to just me at my place.
