can he get Buddy a gig ala Weaver or is the bridge burned between the families
He may never want to leave New OrleansNBA stint, to rehabilitate rep, then back to college.
Agree RF2044.NBA stint, to rehabilitate rep, then back to college.
I also have a great Hop story. When my son was playing youth BB, there was a contest raising money for coaches v Cancer. The winner got to go to an SU practice. This was when Hop was a player. It seems most have a personal Hop story. Hop was the guest speaker at my HS's end of year sports banquet my sophomore year. He golfed before and clearly enjoyed a few drinks. He was lubed up pretty good and very entertaining and funny when he spoke.
That should be a requirement. If thing's don't work with Autry, I'd love if things worked out in a way where Hopkins successfully ends up here. I don't see a way that happens without him being a successful coach at another level first, thought.
Agree. Love Hop as a person, but there's not a whole lot of evidence that him being our head coach would be a good idea. If we have to move on from Red, we need to go outside the family and that's ok. Most schools do.I think people are forgetting how bad Hop was at Washington his final two years. I love Hop, but just not at SU.
I think Dumars/ Weaver have been a disaster so far but if the season goes off the rails the first thing they will do is fire HC Willie Green and most likely name James Borrego the interim HC. If Borrego does a decent job he will most likely remain there. I do think Hop could stay in NOLA as long as Weaver does and Dumars most likely will not fire Troy after just one year if ever. Right or wrong they ( Dumars/ Weaver) are kind of a package deal. With regard to Hop he could be in a good spot there if he can weather the storm. If Borrego is let go as well, Weaver is crazy enough to give Hop a shot as the HC. The Pelicans will have no other option but to tear it down and start a massive rebuild which they probably should have done anyway. The job won't be appealing in any capacity so Hop could be the guy. Sounds crazy but so is Troy Weaver.Former Cuse assistant Troy Weaver is having input in New Orleans. Unfortunately, he might go down as one of the worst NBA execs of this century. Not hyperbole. The Athletic had a rather insightful/damning article on his track record and more than questionable moves.
Hop will be in The Big Easy for less than a year. Not his fault.
His best bet now is to find some stability in the NBA as an assistant and maybe he gets a shot down the road. If anyone is going to give him that shot it's Troy Weaver as I said he's crazy enough to do just that but Willie Green and James Borrego will have to fail first. And Hop would be the guy to take on a massive rebuild. NBA hires unproven assistants as HC all the time. Why not Hop?Wish Hop well in NO.
A decade ago he was the younger up and coming guy with all the recruiting ties and the big personality. No idea of he could game coach but he would've had a ton of talent. But, that ship has long, long sailed.
