Isn't this the perfect opportunity to bring Hop back after the way he was unceremoniously forced out despite the transition plan? I'm curious how everyone would feel about that. Most of us feel that Red will be back next year, but this is so interesting to me. How would everyone feel about Hop being brought back for 2025-26? I would freaking love it.

CLEAN HOUSE !!!! I love Hop and Red and what they have done for Syracuse but it is time for fresh eyes and new ideas. We need to inject some excitement into this program and we are not going to do that by keeping it status quo.
I know man, I hear you, but we know how cheap SU is. I think Hop did a decent job out in Seattle, but he was out of his element on the west coast. I think he would thrive here. A condition would be that nobody on the staff remains if this were to happen.

I love Hop and Red. I do. I hate what happened with Hop and JB with the transition. I hate the situation with Red now. Both of those guys deserve all the respect and admiration in the world for their contributions to the Syracuse basketball program and Syracuse community.

But there has to be a full, national search at this point (or after next year if Red is back and it keeps tracking like this).

As an assistant, sure. If someone from outside the program is the HC and wants Hop as an assistant, sure. But everyone else currently on the bench goes away.

I can’t see Hop returning In any capacity, though. I like(d) him and I think he could still be an asset, but he didn’t succeed as a HC and now is not the time to retreat into history to further cement a bad lineage.

Need a guy from outside the program. We should have done that in the first place. I don’t care if Duke, UNC etc replaced legends with an alum on staff, those programs weren’t crashing like ours was when JB finally retired, we needed experience and a new voice then and we need it now even more

It wasn't just being out on the west coast that Hop struggled. He's not a good bench coach. Same situation we're in now.

Haha No!
Get me a real big time coach or one who has a blueprint of success at a lower level

Why? He has a proven track record of losing.

I've always wanted a national search. I guess my Hop angle is a compromise with the decision-makers who seem to only want to keep it "in the family". Trust me if we go national I'm totally on board w that.

In Hop's case at UW, I think he showed he can coach, but didn't get enough talent out there. He recruited like a mother****er out here though. That seems to be vice versa w regard to Red. Hop would be back in his element recruiting here.

Hop recruited plenty of talent out there.

nooooooooooo! You people always want a former player to take over here! Look whats its gotten us and look what he did at Washington. Someone with no ties to the program is the only way to go here, someone whos established, and who’s had success with the system he runs.

Hop had ties with all the Eastern AAU programs. He would be on 14-15 year old kids before they blew up, and some of them stayed loyal to him. Hop didn't have any Western AAU connections, and he wasn't at Washington long enough to develop them. And now a lot of his eastern connections have probably faded by now.

Red & staff have current ties to Eastern AAU programs. He has kids in the pipeline he's been recruiting for years, just like Hop used to do.

But we whiffed on last year's portal. That's why Kline was hired in June, to make sure we get our "bang for our buck" in the next portal which opens in April.

I'll bet he wants nothing to do with today's college game with NIL and the portal. He's solidified himself in the NBA, no reason to come back to this cesspool.

I think fans might be very disappointed in who might consider coaching at SU.

No Too much zone. And he didn't deliver at the job he just had.
