Not surprised. I don't follow it as closely as I used to, but I still follow things closely enough that I would think I would recognize a Power 5 coaching hire without looking up his bio.

he's somewhat known around these parts, since he's from here, played for Minnesota and was an assistant under Pitino for a few years - in theory has good local connections for recruiting - but gophers fanbase was definitely expecting an actual splash hire - I wouldn't call Coyle the most popular guy in Minnesota right now
