Monmouth Postgame

Looks like we’re at a 7 man rotation after talking about our great depth. Soare will get some fill-in minutes but Anthony and White are it. Was Betsey injured?

Coaching malpractice on late game decisions on who is in for free throws. JJ air balls. Zephyr, enough said.
Red needed to bring JJ off the bench to ease him back. Poor decisions. They should not leave the gym unless they can hit a 100 free throws.
JJ will be in that gym til 2036 in order for that to happen. I legit tried to helped him. Gave him tons of routines that helps to fix the yips. It’s a lost cause. Feel bad for him and he’s definitely losing sleep over it

Talked with people about this today. 100% people agreed that when JJ comes back, he has to start. You don't want to start any controversy about who the starting 2 is. I agree. I also think right now, we are a better team without him. I hope that changes.

Definitely looked gimpy.

Rotation should be shortened. George and Kingz need to be in the game the majority of the time. This is a 9 pm Tuesday night game with awful officiating that ruined any flow to the game. I’ll be worried Monday if we lose by 20+ until then we’re 4-0.

Just a horrific night for Red.
-With the game on the line of all the players on our team he runs an inbounds play to Bryce Zephir? Is that the spot when you want him taking the first two free throws of his Syracuse career? You just put in Fennell the play before so what changed?
-how can you get the ball to JJ on an inbounds play after he had just airballed a free throw?
-did Red not learn anything from JB about how to take the air out of the ball with a lead? Why were we launching a three pointer with 20 seconds left on the shot clock?
-why were our guys fouling in the front court with the lead?
-Donnie played so soft with the game on the line, including the ill advised off 1 foot airball and letting a guy just take the ball away from him after a defensive rebound.
-Red went too long with Souare. It was as if he thought we were up by 20.
-really a bummer for this game to take air out of our sails before Vegas. At least we got the win.

Start him fine. But take him out after a minute or 2 just like how Fab Melo and Xmas were handled back in the day.

My take on the game was that Monmouth is a decent, hard-working team that plays good defense. If they shoot hot, and that one kid went crazy, these kind of upsets can happen.

I thought we competed hard. I thought that Kingz and George were both terrific. I thought Donnie had a very good game, and although the other 3 big guys didn't have statistically their best games, we have presence inside. We play hard on defense.

On the other hand, there was JJ's mental meltdown late. And right after he made a sweet corner 3, and hit that first foul shot. And then 2 airballs and he had to be taken out of the game. Wow, shades of Chuck Knoblaugh ruined was I thought was very good comeback game by JJ.

We could have used Betsey in this game, and will need him in Las Vegas.

Don't get me started on the refs, because that always sounds like sour grapes. But my goodness some of those calls were so terrible.

I guess the glass-half-full outlook is that it's better for the team to had to execute in a late game situation to preserve the lead, and they did. Just barely. But it's still a "W".

I think this is going to be a very competitive team in the next several games. I think we have a lot of good pieces. I just wish JJ hadn't kind of ruined what was a very solid comeback game.

He was having a perfectly fine game until the last 2 minutes.
Then he had a nervous breakdown.

Watching some people make grand proclamations about the team and season based on one close game, something that happens across the country, is hilarious.

We played poorly, no momentum or rhythm. We’re 4-0.

Hope those refs are put in ref prison.
Looks like a 19 and 12 Syracuse team. Basing it on free-throw shooting, rebounding.

Glad JJ kept his FGAs low and played within the system. That three he hit was catch and shoot bc he got to the right spot. His FT issues are scary. That hitch is wild. That has to be mental at this point. If JJ is shooting 5-7 FGAs a game, perfect. But the FTs mean he maybe shouldn’t be in at the end of games. I still don’t think he should start.

The whole team has to work on FTs. Can’t miss that many.

Is Donnie hurt? He’s got to play better. He’s got to be smarter and more aggressive. He can’t dip in and out. Glad he made 12 FTs but he has to be better. If I’m going to be hard on JJ, Donnie deserves some scorn. He has to be better. Period.

I need Sadiq to be able to stay on the floor. Love him. Refs did him no favors but he has to be able to stay out there.

George and Kingz - big thanks.

Red looked lost out there with rotations and subs, especially near the end of the game.

I’m not going to blame the refs bc we should be able to smoke this team even if it was 5 on 6, but that was horrible officiating on both ends. Totally screwed up any flow of the game.

Bad game but we won. Burn the tape. Figure out the rotations and make some FTs.

The train is coming down the tracks now and we have to be better. Best case, everyone had a bad game including the refs and it’s an anomaly. Worst case… we’ll worry about that later.

4-0. Bad wins are still better than good losses.
