Rumors of Syracuse University and the Dome discussing moving the court to the middle of the dome for the Duke game.

I'll try and find a report on this. I'll also call my old boss (I worked as a grounds crew member over winter break this year).

How is that good news for the longtime season ticket holders in 308-312?

Maybe the big-game charlies should come out to more of the other games. We had a pathetic announced 17k for the Memphis game a couple of years ago.

Who gives a about the big game charlies.

How do you think young recruits like Briscoe, Obonoko, Joseph, Vaughn, Diallo, Johnson, and possibly Whitehead will like it?

They'll love it.

Stupid idea. Like we don't already have a great atmosphere. Let's just make as many bad seats as possible.

How about experimenting by putting the court at midfield for an exhibition NBA game? By no means would it be expected to fill the place with 50,000, but Dome management would learn a lot about the logistics involved, sight lines, fan feedback, etc.

I don't think you know what I mean by big-game charlie - people who only show up for the big game.

So turning the court around would piss off the most loyal fans (my mid court seat would then be behind the backboard and a mile away) for the sake of the more casual fans.

More casual fans, or fans who watch every game at home or at local bars because season tickets are a privilege to few..

Just wanted to give your profile picture a shout out..."You're a puppet"

awesome show

terrible idea. a few thousand more seats isn't worth it. am shocked they are actually even discussing it. hopefully they come to their senses soon

Uggh. Hope it isn't true. I think we're a big time program, why are there still people who think we aren't? Do you think Duke/UNC are planning to move their home games with us to a bigger venue or reconfiguring Cameron or the Dean dome because their fans are so excited anticipating seeing SU playing there? Why inconvenience/punish the loyal SU fans who buy season tickets year in and year out, attend the games, support the team to accommodate a circus for fair weather fans?

100% true. if anything it would take away are home court advantage. stupid idea

The number of season-ticket packages sold the past few seasons is thousands less than in the salad days of the late '80's-early '90's.

Which is to say--the privilege is available to many more, if they choose to (and can afford to) make the financial commitment

People get excited.

Let's say you're a season ticket holder in Sec 311.

If they move the court, your seat is now worthless.

Suppose SU decides to "reseat" all the season ticket holders in an equivalent seating location. Now you're in Sec 302.

302 is just as worthless because you're still too far away from the court.

On top of that, think of the poor schmuck that gets stuck in 311 ... behind the basket ... at least 50 yards away from the action.

I'm certain your seat would be in a different section for that one game to compensate for the court adjustment. Someone I spoke with from the Athletic Department said they were thinking of doing this. This occurred at the Tulane pregame in New Orleans, which was 2011. If they we're smart enough, hopefully they've been working on the logistics all along.

the big question is why would we even be trying to re-rig our own home court to appease a few thousand more people? it won't give us a better advantage, it will ruin dedicated season ticket holders view of the court, and it makes us look like some 2nd rate program that has to use some propped up home court because someone got all excited that Duke is coming to town. memo just in, but they will be coming in for hopefully the next 50 years. are we going to make a spectacle of this every year? might as well move it down to MSG...Oh wait...

Perhaps it would be possible to move season tickets to an equivalent seat? So you might not be in your exact section but instead would have essentially the same view, or as close to the same view as possible. It doesn't seem like rocket science to accommodate season ticket holders.

I don't think it would make us look like a second rate program at all. It would probably be the biggest event to hit Central New York. It would showcase ESPN and have the two winningest coaches in NCAA history playing their first conference game against each other with likely two top 10 teams.

If I watched another school involved in that spectacle, I would be jealous as hell that we weren't involved. Wouldn't you be if you were watching Gameday on a cold saturday in January or February and two other lesser schools were hyped as much as this game would be? I'd be pissed off all day after our nooner against Wake or BC.

Duke is worthy. They're the best program in college basketball in the past 30 years. JB and K are friends who respect the hell out of each other. They're two absolutely legendary figures in the game who are nearing retirement. And we can never be a second rate program because no one else in the country could pull it off.

55,000 screaming fans. A sea of Orange. For a one off event it would be amazing.

I'll go for it if they put a ring of student seating around the entire court, 10 rows deep.
