Most Disappointing Player

I knew that Kiyan would have his ups and downs, but man it's mostly been downs. Extremely limited handle, zero quickness, horrendous defense and he's mostly been abysmal at the one skill that I thought he could contribute to this team - shooting. In fact, I'm not sure I've ever seen a shooting mechanics issue like he has. He almost always fades away and/or sideways on basically every three-point shot that he takes. Many times, he will twist his lower body in this middle of this shot, despite being stationary and lined up with the basket. It's incredibly bizarre. Almost how like the form of an 8-year-old who isn't strong enough to be shooting three pointers (but he's a 6'5" 19-year-old).

Quite a few possibilities to choose from.
Have at it...
Mine would be Nate George. We needed a PG who could pass, handle the ball, and drive and dish.

All I have seen is him trying to show off that he is a 3 point shooting threat and has been so easy to strip the ball from that I would think he was more of a combo guy than a point.

Agreed. In the preseason, it sounded like he was a top-notch leader who would take charge as PG. He's been anything but that.

Freeman. I know some will point to how well he has played at times, and it's true he is our most talented and at times our best player. That's why I'm disappointed. He has the talent to be dominant night in and night out. For whatever reason - lack of toughness, inconsistent intensity, apathy, etc. - he isn't. I didn't expect Melo, that wouldn't be fair, but I expected more.

We weren’t relying on freshman Kiyan to make a monster difference though.

1) George. The PG is so critical and he regressed versus what we did at Tech and rarely commanded anything.

2) JJ. From pre-season second-team all-ACC to why-is-he-playing-so-much discussion.

3) Donnie. For not becoming “him” in a way a team needs its star player to make everyone else better.

I know and maybe disappointed isn’t the right term. But to me, the letdown is that I thought Kiyan had star potential as he grew into an upperclassman and instead, it seems like rotational role player is his ceiling (and that’s only if he can correct his disastrous shooting form). A 6’5” not very athletic tweener that can’t dribble or shoot isn’t very appealing.

That’s fair. If he stays here 4 yrs, I think he can be a star. But it’ll take work

When I saw Kiyan in person in Philly vs Drexel (I get that it was just Drexel) I thought he had a very calm and mature offensive game. I really felt at that point he had the potential to be a productive offensive player for us all season, but it just hasn’t materialized. I don’t think the book on him is closed at all, but for this year specifcally IMO it’s Kiyan. At minimum I thought he could at least be a good foul shooter.

Starling is the exact same player he was last year. I wasn’t expecting any more or any less from him.

George would probably be second for me.

For me, it's clearly Donnie Freeman who has disappointed. He's the most talented guy on the team, but he is a total finesse player. He makes very little use of his size.

Others like him from recent years, guys like Oshea Brissette and Quincy Guerrier, at least did more work on defense and on the boards to earn their 3 point attempts.

Donnie is good on the defensive boards, but he never scores down low, has no real post game, and is really, really soft, not very competitive.

Another vote for George. Having George and JJ at the starting guard spots really hurt us this year. That said, I'm becoming more and more disappointed with Freeman. He plays soft as hell and his turnovers are so freaking frustrating to watch. Two that came in the first half last night were from the defense just ripping the ball from him. This seems to happen every damn game.

JJ. Not a leader, worst bb IQ, not a facilitator, can’t make a left handed layup, can’t shoot FTs and never improved

To be fair to JJ, I’m not sure the combined basketball IQ of the entire team would match that of a good player on one of the top teams.

Pretty much everyone. No exaggeration. They’ve all been disappointing in one way or another. Some more than others. But all at least somewhat disappointing.

Freeman and George have been the worst.

I’m not disappointed with Starling because everyone knew his limitations. The fault there is Red.

Anthony’s been bad in conference play, but most people said he needed a year or two to grow. He is who he is.

It is frustrating how our first top 10 HS player in a long time plays like any other schools run of the mill 4 star (if that makes any sense). Donnie is supposed to be a first round projected NBA guy who is a game changer every time on the court. Just seems so Syracuse for us to finally snag that top recruit who is supposed to be a game changer, but he is under whelming overall for that type of recruiting stature. I watch all these other freshman on other teams going off and our 5 star sophomore is just a solid player, not a game wrecker and team carrier. Stinks
