Most Disappointing Player

It is frustrating how our first top 10 HS player in a long time plays like any other schools run of the mill 4 star (if that makes any sense). Donnie is supposed to be a first round projected NBA guy who is a game changer every time on the court. Just seems so Syracuse for us to finally snag that top recruit who is supposed to be a game changer, but he is under whelming overall for that type of recruiting stature. I watch all these other freshman on other teams going off and our 5 star sophomore is just a solid player, not a game wrecker and team carrier. Stinks
I'm with you on Donnie. It just frustrates me to watch him at times (even when the ball goes through the hoop) because he doesn't attack, turns the ball over way too much, loves a fadeaway jumper or likes to heave up a 3 instead of getting better shots and forcing the defender to foul him.

Donnie. Soft. Not a leading man. Horrible turnovers. Not a plus defender. Also likely costs a good amount of $$$.

If George was a drinking game you'd be passed out in the first half (drive, turnover...drink).

Freeman is soft and studiously avoids contact. I see a career in Spain or Greece.

Quite a few possibilities to choose from.
Have at it...

JJ is exactly who he has always been. A below average player. Same dude, different year. The pre-season 2nd team all conference was ridiculous.

George has been the biggest disappointment to me. Yes, he is being poorly coached with no actual effective plan or strategy, but he can't breakdown any defenses on his own. He is so much more dependent on others than I thought, it's just a terrible fit, both roster and coaching.

Donnie has too much innate talent to be what he is, as well. I get he's on a ghost ship of a team, but he has the most talent and he could have helped lift the team, even if Red couldn't. So while he isn't my most disappointing, he is up there.

I'm more disappointed in the coaching. The players have talent, but aren't coached up well.

Freeman should have been fast tracking to the pros, and might have on another team, that made him play harder defensively and structure his shot selection more inside-out.

JJ is also a McD's all american who never came close to living up to that billing. He's okay, and not a crushing disappointment, he's just the same player he was three years ago. And he's a guy who doesn't seem to want the ball in his hands when the game is on the line.

George has been more or less what I expected. I thought at the beginning of the year that the expectations for him, with limited athleticism, were far overblown.

Kiyan had the ups and downs I expected when I watched him play in HS. Very typical frosh season, IMO, with some good things flashed and some games he struggled / didn't do much.

But really, the focus should be on the subpar coaching staff, which did the players no favors. Talent, depth, and size were there. This should have been an NCAA team, and would have been with a more competent staff.

Oh well -- 3 more games and it is over.

This is why I hope everyone is back. I think these kids are talented. They need better coaches.

No way. You're massively overrating their ability to win. I don't care who the coach is.

I'm just going to say that basically the entire season was disappointing. Now, we have had other disappointing season, especially recently, but we heard, or thought we heard how the NIL was better and it allowed us to get the players we wanted, how our freshman recruits were highly rated, how Melo and LaLa were going to create excitement and how we returned our two "best" players.

As Colonel Potter would say, "Horse Hockey".

I have my opinions on who are the most disappointing players on the team but rather than highlight the negative I will give you the players who have exceeded my expectations.

1. Nate Kingz - came in with the reputation of a shooter but when his shot wasn’t falling he impressed me with his defense and ability to take the ball to the basket. His shot has come on the second half of the year. My only disappointments are I wish he would drive a little more and his free throw shooting

2. William Kyle - watching tape of him I was a little higher on Kyle than most but he even exceeded my expectations. His energy and athleticism are something we haven’t seen at Syracuse in a while. He is undersized though and struggled against bigger stronger players. Also his game is limited offensively by his inability to shoot outside of 6 ft from the basket.

3. Sadiq White - Sadiq did not really exceed my expectations on the court. Much of that was that he was behind Donnie in the death chart. It’s easy to see why he was a highly ranked recruit and watching him play I think he is the one guy on this roster that will have a long NBA career.

Can't argue with that at all. Sadiq seems like the kind of player who, if stays in college 3 years (maybe 4) could be really special. I really hope he returns next year along with Kingz.

I knew Donnie was bad at times. I didn't realize he was terminal.
Sad.

Nate George. I knew/know what JJ is.
Nate's handle is so sub-par, especially for being the only true 1 on the team. Has trouble bringing the floor against a single defender. At the end of the day: don't fall for assist numbers, as those can be reasonably manipulated by a school's stats crew.

Nate George.
For how he was advertised, one great big disappointment.
Not in same ballpark or zip code as Jonny Flynn or Sherman Douglas.

Not a floor general, not a leader, not a clutch shooter, not a defensive presence.

Just a great big Meh.

Lobdell. He should have got much more run given all the double digit blowouts. Alas, he couldn’t keep himself healthy. Probably overexerted himself in the weight room.

Great call. I spotted him earlier today...
