Most Memorable Recruiting Misses

First thoughts for me are listed already.
Deeper thoughts listed as well...Adonal Foyle, Huerter & Mookie Jones...i know.

Taurean Thompson, counts in my book. He was never mentally here and what is sad is that his best season by a longshot was Freshman year here.
I am sure he and mom were tough to deal with but the right coach and supporting staff should have been able to guide them on the right path. or not
Mental illness is no joke.
He could have become quite the player.

Optics wise we dodged the biggest recruiting miss possible.
Thank You Kiyan & Anthony family.
Really don’t think we knew how lucky we were when he left.

He did not know how to play defense even in a zone. He was better offensively but looked a little out of place but looks can be deceiving.

Look at the way he did leave. Did not tell anyone until the first day of school. Looked like that transfer had signs of tampering.

Look at the way he played for the schools he transferred to. Never improved and could not repeat his offense from his freshman season.

Finally, where is he today?

Didn't Brunson and his dad drive to talk to Syracuse because he wanted to go to
Syracuse but JB had another guy who I won't name instead.
Brunson was never coming here, he was Nova all the way. That comes from a very close source to Brunson.

I actually brought the rumor up about Brunson wanting to come to SU but Boeheim not really recruiting him to the person I know who’s very close to Brunson and they laughed and said it was Nova all the way. This particular person also really doesn’t like Boeheim lol.

I heard opposite, that they loved Nova and Jay Wright from the get-go.
False.

Per Rick Brunson directly.

And also irrelevant. It didn't mean that Jaylen was going to ultimately choose to come here, but they were kicking the tires on the father's hometown squad, and JB turned up his nose.

That's the relevant part that should be focused upon.

Again, I know a good amount of his family still live in Syracuse have never been Boeheim fans. Many have actually been Nova fans before he committed to them.

And again, I've known the father for nearly 40 years.

I'm relaying direct information he told me in MINNEAPOLIS about how frustrating he found the situation, after his son won his first NC.

Maybe he would have ended up at Villanova, maybe we would have stood a greater chance if our HC hadn't been dismissive.

Irrelevant. It was a blunder.

Turned up or picked?

Man, I was so pumped to land Tobias Harris. Commits to an orange team, in NYC, and it’s fving Tennessee.

I’ve openly rooted against him every step of his nba career.
I've mentioned elsewhere but Tobias Harris is the only high school player I've ever seen boo'd. I usually go to the NYS final four, and being in the same graduating class as Harris I was extra pumped the year Half Hollow Hills West made it to the final four since I had been tracking Harris's recruitment/journey and was the same age as him. I was upset like everyone else that he chose TN but I was still stoked to see a player of his caliber in person. What an absolute letdown. His team won the semifinal game but played a very sloppy state championship game against CBA Albany. He got his 4th foul early in the 4th quarter and then threw a tantrum and slammed the floor which earned him his 5th foul as a technical. When the game was over his team was given runners up medals and he chucked his on the floor and stormed off the court. Whole arena boo'd him, I had and still never have seen anything like it. Made me think Cuse might have dodged a bullet, though he still probably would have had a good year for them if he committed. Funny thing is he wasn't even the best player on his team that weekend, that was their point guard who was very generously listed at 5'8" but had like a 60 inch vertical and played a short stint at Iowa State afterward.

Straight from Steph’s mouth. One small sentence killed it:

It's a good story... but that aint why we didnt go to Cuse

Hustling Dave Chappelle GIF

Thinking we were one of many schools in 1984 recruiting Chicago's Ben Wilson, who was slain on the streets after his junior year. We had just landed the Pearl the year before iirc. Boo Harvey also come to mind.

kenny anderson, cuz with him SU was winning the title in the late 80s, without him and with
mike edwards, they did not.

however, anyone that didn't go to SU and went to UConn for probationary reasons hurt too,
cuz it simultaneously built them while not building the Orange.

Boeheim made a lot of coaching blunders- on game day, with lack of program oversight, with recruiting, etc. It is just very difficult for this board to acknowledge them- also difficult for the Syracuse community at large because of Boeheim's loyalty and charitable contributions which are noteworthy.

Irrelevant we can agree upon. We both know someone connected directly to Jalen. All I can do is rely the information given to me by the direct source, just as you did. Jalen and his father still visit Syracuse because family still lives here.
