Rakeem came to SU with no offensive skill but was athletic and could rebound and block shots.

Diagne has no offensive skill but rebounds well and runs the floor well with his high motor.

Can't wait to see him get to work with Mike Hopkins and hopefully develop an offensive game

Diagne has no offensive skill? LOL. This couldn't be any more wrong. I'm taking it you've never seen Diagne play?

Director of scouting for ESPN (Paul Biancardi) says "Diagne remains raw offensively" and go back to 1 year to his junior year scouting report, it's the same thing "no back to the basket offenisve game"

He's wrong. He is versatile. Diagne uses both hands with effectiveness. He has a baby hook, drop step and can shoot out to 20 feet out. He also can take his guy off the dribble. Diagne also can elevate and finish with authority. Other than that, he's pretty raw.

Sounds like he should be the #1 pick in the draft but yet he is only #55 in the top 100 high school players

Yeah, because ratings are always accurate. Ask Francis about Diagne...or just read the thread on the recruiting board...or watch some youtubes. Or just be pleasantly surprised next year. He's not a finished product but he's a lot further along than "raw." He's a lot more polished than McCullough, for example.

It's just a matter of the dynamic on the court and who the go-to-guys are that will affect how and when Diagne develops. Rak made great strides this year, but that was partly due to others in previous years being the focal points of the offense not being here any, not necessary that Rak wasn't capable. Same for Diagne at least offensively. Defensively, here's hoping he's one big fly swatter and rebounding monster.

As Iommi said you must have never seen him play and are just basing judgements on what was said about him a year ago. He does have an offensive game and is a great rebounder. He might not have the upside like a Chris McCullough but he certainly has a motor and plays hard.

This tells me you know next to nothing about Diange, which is fine but it seems silly to post something so definitive when you obviously have not put much if any effort or time into evaluating his game.

Yeah you need to watch some vids on how this kid plays around the bucket. He looks a man among boys yet still can use a soft touch. He has the aggressive mentality Rak did not as a frosh as well.

Offensively, Diagne next year will probably be closer to the senior Rak than the freshman Rak. :noidea:

For 2-3zone and anyone else who doesn't spend much time on the recruiting board. Don't see how anyone can watch this and think 'no offensive skill.' Watch and come to your own conclusions.
Forget who said it on the other board but I agree: if he was a couple inches taller people would be talking about him as a 1 and done.

I agree with those who have lauded Diagne's offensive game. I've watched a full game of each of the new recruits (minus Lydon whom I can't find). I think that Diagne and Richardson are part of the rotation as freshman (and Bryant if he comes). I'm not really concerned about either of them fitting offensively. Defensively there will be a big learning curve. Diagne looks to be in the 6'8" range, and I think that he plays the bulk of his minutes on the wing defensively (unless we miss on Bryant). He looks more mobile than did Rick Jackson, and if he's in the middle, I wouldn't be surprised if he struggles with quick foul trouble, a la many of our young centers.
On another note, I wouldn't be surprised if Frank Howard and/or Tyler Lydon redshirt if the staff doesn't think they'd contribute immediately.

Paul Biancardi though:D. Next we'll see somebody refer to Crystal Ball Jerry and his great evaluations. Jordoo, I believe has mentioned in the past that there is so much good info and detailed evaluations on recruits in the recruiting forum from people who have actually seen them play. For whatever reason a good percentage of peeps that post here pays absolutely no attention to it unfortunately.

Can't wait for him to step out and take a 17ft jump shot

Imagine how quick that hook will be from JB

Can't we just enjoy something special we have now...Rakeem Christmas and not compare him to other people

Terrible assessment of Diagne's skill set.

Based upon the opinions your expressing, I assume you haven't watched him play.

Diagne is going to surprise people. Him and Richardson might be the two incoming who are most ready to contribute next year. He has more offensive skill than you give him credit for...
Every year people claim that so-n-so will surprise SU fans and way more often than not the surprise is not the under-rated player being better than thought but the highly rated player not being the guy everybody claimed he was. As for video, how easy is it to put together 2 minutes out of a whole years worth of video to make a player look good. I'm sure there is enough tape to make a 6'8" center look like a SF shooting 17 footers over and over again. Me. I'd rather be surprised on the good side than disappointed because of over expectations.

I only watched the first 35 seconds of that video. In that time I saw maybe one kid that appeared to be of similar height and athletic ability playing defense against him. I'm with you on holding off any assessment of this kid's game until I actually see him play against D1 college athletes. Seems like just 12 months ago we were hearing about this McCullough kid who was going to be the next Melo. Let's just take a breath people.

All that video tells me is that the guy behind the camera picked lousy seats and forgot what the zoom feature was for. ;)

Diagne is the real deal.
