It’s hard to believe but I’m telling one and all the solution for most issues this team is facing (on the O side of the ball) is simple.

Play Schrader going forward, most problems then take care of themselves. The D is fine enough. Translation 6-7 wins, maybe more. Period end of story.

How come other coaches (Schiano) can load up on transfers and turn their program around during non-covid years but when there is a free transfer year Syracuse adds 1 contributing player, and he’s on defense ?

It certainly could be that simple. It's not as if Schrader is fresh out of high school. He played for Mississippi State in 2019 and did reasonably well, as a 19-year-old freshman against high-level competition. Yes, we have data on Schrader. Check his stats against LSU (the National Champs that year) and Auburn (finished as #13 in 2019).

I think you're just trying to throw every dart at the board and hoping to hit some numbers.

He's an alum, a football fan. I'm sure he's scratching his head on several things from Saturday's game. But I don't think he can unilaterally make a switch when there's a buyout involved. I'd guess he puts in his recommendation and the BoT probably gives him authority to move forward.

He's also not going to make that recommendation after game 2. We're not USC, with a coach who was on the hot seat for years and years while the cross town team is making all the waves.

He sees 20,000 empty seats, and knows it's not something he can just blame on Covid.

Is this what is meant by a straw man argument? I didn't say he needed to pull the plug on Babers right now. I think that would be a disaster. The post I was replying to asked whether anyone really thinks that he doesn't have a pulse on the issues both on and off the field with the team. I said there's no reason to think that he does based on this being his first AD job and the fact he completely whiffed on the Hillsman thing. He CLEARLY did not have a pulse on that program.

Also being an alum and football fan doesn't qualify you to run an athletic department. If it did, SU would have 20,000 people to choose from with similar qualifications.

feel the same with lax. top teams were loaded with transfers . we missed the train.
