Like many posters, I have been a Marrone supporter but lately have been finding myself really questioning if he has the chops to get us to the next level. My point is, before GROB was hired, coach PP got us to a bowl game at least. However, during those last couples years there were games where we were just getting blown out of the stadium. I can think of the Purdue game to open a season and the Georgia tech bowl game off the top of my head. That trend also continued into the Grob era. Since Marrone has took over I honestly cant think of one game where we were truly blown out and just looked like a high school team.

SOOOO... I have a lot of different theories here. On one hand I think that just maybe Marrone is a really good coach when it comes to getting marginal players to play up to their competition and on the other I think recruiting has taken an uptick and Marrone just doesnt know how to put them in a postion to win.

Needless to say I am frustrated with this team and especially Marrone and I have no point to make.

Marrone coached team never has...and never will get blown out. He is the man for the job.

Correction- Shafer's defense won't let us get blown out. The offense and special team's inconsistent play however is doing its best to sabotage that.

Good post. I was of a similar mindset. He came in and immediately made the team more competitive with the same personnel that were largely inept under GRob the previous year. We got to a bowl in year 2, and recruiting--while not gangbusters impressive in terms of who we were landing--seemed to be heading in the right direction.

I think that Marrone does a fine job of most aspects of rebuilding the program--but where he has falling glaringly short is on game day. We just aren't winning enough, and I am no longer convinced that he is the right guy for the job. I started having doubts after the Minnesota debacle, and last week's win--while nice--didn't instill confidence. Today's mistakes cost us a winnable game against a ranked opponent, and I just don't see how today's performance isn't on the coaching staff.

Terrible, frustrating loss. Especially for a team needing wins to claw out bowl eligibility.

We have been blown out plenty. People like to remember the WV games and forget about the bad ones. We haven't been epically blown out or blown out this year. But we have had plenty of stinkers.

2011
Trailed 21-3 early 3rd Q and 38-10 4th Q to USC
Trailed 27-3 at Lousiville
Trailed 30-10 at home to a bad USF team
Trailed Cincy without their QB 23-6 in the 3rd Q

2010's dream season
After a good start let a mediocre Wash team go on a 34-3 run
Lost 45-14 at home to a mediocre Pitt team
Lost 23-6 at home to a mediocre UConn team

2009
Trailed 28-0 at PSU
Trailed 34-13 at home to USF
Trailed 27-0 at half for a home game against WV
Trailed 37-3 at Pitt

We were a 7 point underdog, we lost by 8. How many bowl teams have beat us in 4 seasons? It is clearly time to lose our heads and call for everyones heads, bench starters and play bench players. Any over/under on how many coaches refuse the job before we get a taker?

BCS program is a stable ACC conference with the BE taking a hit and PSU down in the Northeast. There's plenty of opportunity to be seized at SU for a coach. Lots and lots to like about our situation. We're in a much better position than we were 4 years ago.

I think this is true.
