1.)How many players transferred from penn st. between 11/11 thru 6/12...zero is what i counted.

2.) how many players ripped into paterno and the school once the scandel broke...i haven't seen any stories if they did.

3.) we play ped st. next year.

4.) when you really look at all the reactions from the penn st program you would really have to wonder where a transfer player true loyalties would reside. after all how many kids would play for an 85 year old coach if they were not all in. so would the conservative doug take that chance...with him coming from the nfl and being in draft room looking at the reports from the team shrinks on potential picks you could see him taking that approach.

5.) just my opinion

Didn't "take" a player who is currently at Penn State?
So, the assumption is that a PSU player or two had a real interest in transferring to SU. Just didn't seem to be the case.

Re #1: Rob Bolden was essentially out the door for months I believe.

Re: #4: What exactly is the risk for Marrone? It's not like it counts against the scholarship limit.

You missed what Dukes said today?

Bolden tried to transfer after his freshman year and Joe Pa would not give him a release. Joe Pa made the kids father drive down from Ohio to meet with them and deny the release. The father was really pissed about it...

We'll see how it plays out during the season. I would expect a few players to be disillusioned by the end of the season... especially if they go 7-5 or 6-6.

my take - there were probably only a couple kids that were interested in leaving that were at a position SU would be looking for (OL, DT, DE, TE, RB heading to U$C) and those couple of kids weren't interested in SU.

Dukes might have glanced our way, before Redd made his decision to transfer to USC. And he was the exception.

Was more than a glance.

Wouldn't having the Nittany Child Predators on the schedule next season be a pretty compelling reason to try to get one of their players on our roster?

If I see him running for a score against us...couchburn

I probably will. :(

"Syracuse is reportedly the only school that Dukes considered, but the Orange never reached out to him, making his decision to stay at Penn State all the easier."

:bang:

The kid is the new #1 RB there. Staying was not a bad thing for him on the field versus going in and learning a whole new system ASAP. Plus if he's had academic problems, who knows if credits don't transfer, etc.

Hope he does well with his opportunity.

Once again, Doug doesn't get it.

How do you explain to your current players and players you're recruiting if you go out and get a hired gun to potentially replace guys who have working their buts off? Loyalty is a whole lot more important to this program right now. Besides academic issues, Dukes has two children to take care of. That's a lot of stuff to try and work out in a short period of time.

I'm paraphrasing but Coach is on record saying that the player's job is to be the best they can and his job is to look to recruit players better than them and everybody understands how that works.

So either that's bunk or they didn't feel Dukes was better.

While I don't think it is a big deal we didn't go after Dukes (or Jones) hard, why doesn't every school say the same thing? Why does it work for them? Why did we just bring in a number of other xfers not from PedSt? How is that different? What do we say to current players when we bring in a recruiting class? We should always be trying recruit over players as well as bring in more quality for the competition in practice.

How so? HCDM has brought in OTHER transfers. So it's not like he is opposed to bringing in a kid who he thinks can help the team. Why does not bringing in one kid (Dukes) mean he "doesn't get it." Isn't it probable that he has a lot more information than you do? Perhaps there is something you're "not getting."

i forgot, but i was going to list the fact he has brought in transfers to our program.

they came here for others reasons than what the penn st. players are transferring for.

Haven't been a lot of transfers, unless you count JUCOs -- which is a different situation as that is a typical route to D-1 programs. Good job by Marrone to recruit 3 or 4 JUCOs a year to fill some gaps.
Hofstra kids (Cruz and Weaver) came in because Hofstra shut down its program. Adam Harris came from Cornell after one year there. Raymond and Funderbunk are odd cases.

A handful of Penn State players transferred out because the program was under a cloud, had no shot at bowl games. Maybe a couple of those went to very high profile teams (Ennis to USC) for a shot at a major bowl. I believe Dukes saw himself buried as the #3 back-- then quickly reconsidered once the starter at RB (Ennis) connected with USC.

I understand why Dukes would stay. I don't understand why we wouldn't even try to get him to come here.
