This needs to be pretty short. We are babysitting the oldest granddaughter and while she was just put to bed, she is probably going to be up again shortly.
Thought this was a great effort by the staff and the players. It is almost unthinkable to go to Clemson, take the lead immediately and proceed to dominate the game.
Clemson really struggled to stop us. They got hurt by our rushing game inside when they tried to take away the pass and when we had man coverage, we attacked early and often and humiliated the Clemson DBs who tried to cover Cook, Ross-Simmons and Gill. Willis was a presence that had to be respected and that opened things up for the WRs and Villari.
Clemson also struggled most of the game to move the ball on offense. Every year, ‘experts’ rate Klubnik as one of if not the top QB in the ACC and one of the Heidman favorites and every hear, he plays crappy, makes a lot of bad throws and decisions and underwhelms. Today was more of the same.
Our game plan on defense was excellent. I think we wanted to make Klubnik try and beat us through the air. Clemson took the bait and kept throwing with him, even though they had very good success running. Special props to Grant, who looked like a future NFL player and dominated play for extended periods. Thought Long also made a bunch of big plays (along with a really foolish penalty). Perry keeps quietly making plays and being in the right spot. Really didn’t miss not having Duce today much.
Samuel played a lot of man coverage and generally did well. He is also a surprisingly effective tackler. Good to see AD get more PT and be more of a factor as his frosh year continues. Reese got pressure at some key moments, drew a big holding penalty and was a factor. And Chris Thomas got a lot of PT for the first time this season (I think) and looked good when he was out there.
Coach Robinson used a bunch of blitzes to put pressure on Cade, who was vastly less effective with someone running at him. Good on by all.
Thought Cook was probably the best player on the field. He got open a ton and when SU needed a play, he seemed to be the guy to make it a lot, ,especially in the first half. After Angeli went down, the offense changed a lot and was a lot less effective. But part of that was surely an effort to burn clock and maybe give Collins a chance to make some passes and hopefully gain some confidence moving the offense.
Loved Fran’s aggressiveness. He went for it on fourth a couple times early and of course, had the guts to call an on sides kick early. I think you have to be aggressive to win on the road and he certainly was.
Saw some of the Duke-NC State game. Duke’s offense looks legit. Their defense is not bad either. This is not going to be a cake walk, Especially with Angeli out. j hope Coach Nixon can figure out how to score enough points to beat the Blue Devils because I am pretty sure they are going to score some on us. It should be loud on Saturday.
Hope we will be ranked this week but coming from no votes, it isn’t going to happen. Especially with Clemson not ranked for the first time in more than 10 years. Hopefully we at least get a bunch of votes and start getting listed as a favorite for some of the nicer ACC bowls. I would hope we are far ahead of Clemson now.
