This needs to be pretty short. We are babysitting the oldest granddaughter and while she was just put to bed, she is probably going to be up again shortly.

Thought this was a great effort by the staff and the players. It is almost unthinkable to go to Clemson, take the lead immediately and proceed to dominate the game.

Clemson really struggled to stop us. They got hurt by our rushing game inside when they tried to take away the pass and when we had man coverage, we attacked early and often and humiliated the Clemson DBs who tried to cover Cook, Ross-Simmons and Gill. Willis was a presence that had to be respected and that opened things up for the WRs and Villari.

Clemson also struggled most of the game to move the ball on offense. Every year, ‘experts’ rate Klubnik as one of if not the top QB in the ACC and one of the Heidman favorites and every hear, he plays crappy, makes a lot of bad throws and decisions and underwhelms. Today was more of the same.

Our game plan on defense was excellent. I think we wanted to make Klubnik try and beat us through the air. Clemson took the bait and kept throwing with him, even though they had very good success running. Special props to Grant, who looked like a future NFL player and dominated play for extended periods. Thought Long also made a bunch of big plays (along with a really foolish penalty). Perry keeps quietly making plays and being in the right spot. Really didn’t miss not having Duce today much.

Samuel played a lot of man coverage and generally did well. He is also a surprisingly effective tackler. Good to see AD get more PT and be more of a factor as his frosh year continues. Reese got pressure at some key moments, drew a big holding penalty and was a factor. And Chris Thomas got a lot of PT for the first time this season (I think) and looked good when he was out there.

Coach Robinson used a bunch of blitzes to put pressure on Cade, who was vastly less effective with someone running at him. Good on by all.

Thought Cook was probably the best player on the field. He got open a ton and when SU needed a play, he seemed to be the guy to make it a lot, ,especially in the first half. After Angeli went down, the offense changed a lot and was a lot less effective. But part of that was surely an effort to burn clock and maybe give Collins a chance to make some passes and hopefully gain some confidence moving the offense.

Loved Fran’s aggressiveness. He went for it on fourth a couple times early and of course, had the guts to call an on sides kick early. I think you have to be aggressive to win on the road and he certainly was.

Saw some of the Duke-NC State game. Duke’s offense looks legit. Their defense is not bad either. This is not going to be a cake walk, Especially with Angeli out. j hope Coach Nixon can figure out how to score enough points to beat the Blue Devils because I am pretty sure they are going to score some on us. It should be loud on Saturday.

Hope we will be ranked this week but coming from no votes, it isn’t going to happen. Especially with Clemson not ranked for the first time in more than 10 years. Hopefully we at least get a bunch of votes and start getting listed as a favorite for some of the nicer ACC bowls. I would hope we are far ahead of Clemson now.

pretty short? LOL.

A couple of things:

Really liked that Cook had a big game - we will need those the rest of the season, and it can't hurt in holding on to Calvin.

We have all been worried about all the star talent we lost in the off season, but you can start to see lots of our new starters stepping up and possibly becoming stars - great to see. The recruiting and transfers under Fran is working.

I didn't think Willis was that good last season and had some concerns about him being the lead running back this season. I'm seeing it now. The O line helped out a lot, but Willis was good today.

Really impressive job by the staff with their game plan.

Nixon had a lot of presnap motion and OL blocking schemes that really confused the defense. Clemson’s DC must have been confident they could play man on the receivers to allow the LBs to either rush or try to plug up the run. In man, Cook was too fast, Gill was too athletic and JRS was too strong for Clemson DBs. When Clemson played zone, the running game carved them up. Angeli made some big time throws, Trevion was excellent and Villari was an animal blocking against Clemson’s LBs.

ERob was aggressive, but did a nice job of mixing up personnel so the team didn’t get worn down.Tremble might be special, Antoine again made big plays and the DBs were good. I don’t know why Clemson kept insisting on passing when they were finding success on the ground. Klubnik is not a guy you want throwing 60 times in a game. He seemed much less effective when asked to do a lot. I don’t think he read the defense well presnap and ended up waiting too long to identify opportunities with the ball in his hands.

Great analysis usual, Tom! Duke is going to be a dogfight much like Yukon without Angeli. But the crowd and the environment wills the team to another W.

It seemed that a critical aspect of the defensive game plan was to pressure Klubnik, who was a lot less accurate under duress. We may have only sacked him once, but he missed some wide open receivers when pressured.

Great job by Fran keeping the team focused during/after the delay of game. There was a lot of hand wringing in the game thread about that delay affecting our chances to win.
Anyone know what was going on in the locker room during the loooooong break?

Observation: Tomcat gets more “Likes” than Christmas

A lot of guys made plays in all 3 phases. Tripp Woody’s 49 yard field goal early in the 3rd quarter as well as the confidence the coaches had to attempt that kick was eye opening. Deslauriers’ punch out forced fumble late in the 3rd was beautiful and game changing. Kerr’s pick in the 4th pretty much sealed the deal. His coverage was solid, and he saw the ball and then made an impressive catch in forcing the turnover. Cuse won the turnover battle, special teams were truly special, and the offense hummed most of the game and secured the ball. Gotta love team Ws on the road. Go Cuse!!
