This has to be fast. I have a basketball game to watch shortly.

I had a family reunion this afternoon, and so while I was able to watch most of the game, there was no sound, and I was sometimes confused by what the hell is going on.

Quick thoughts:

The OL wasn’t good but wasn’t awful either. There were some holes on running plays and sometimes Rickie had time to throw. Washington got,so,e PT and appeared to be a major step up. Hope he starts soon.

Still way too many holds. Our WRs and TEs are guilty way too often. Cook and Villari with unforced mental errors to cost us a TD early. Ugh.

Special teams were again shaky. They just don’t look well coached. Ever. What is Kerr doing? Run backwards with the ball10 yards and then fumble it. What the hell? Kore I’ll advised KO returns that start our already inept offense in a major hole.

Am I crazy or was that a terrible call when we appeared to down the ball inside the 1 yard line and the refs called a touchback?

On that one crazy drive we had late in the first half, we made a first down on 3rd and 1 by a full yard. Bad enough that call was blown but how did they blow the review as well? Is there a rational explanation? Am I just said insane? The mark on 4th and 1 was questionable but perhaps correct. No way on 3rd. That drove a q0 point swing in the score of the game at halftime. A GT catch on the sideline also looked to be OB but the review somehow missed that the WR’s had was OB. At least I thought it was.

You can see why Ricky starts. There are times when he sits in the pocket, sees the field and makes a strong accurate, deep throw. He has the ability to turn a broken play into a first down using his legs. He has the ability. No question. But then he makes a terrible throw to a player who is wide open with plenty of time. It’s gotta be maddening to coach him. We all know it’s maddening to watch him play.

Thought Willis looked good running it and catching it. Young Hill got a few carries and was impressive. Love his potential. I wonder if that helped light a fire under Yasim’s butt? I hope we give Hill more carries and Nixon less carries. You’ve got to give the ball to your best players. That gives us the best chance to win.

Cook, Gill and JRS are legit (though I wish JRS would get more targets). I think there is a big drop off from them to.the backup WRs. Williams was stinking it up before he got hurt and Daniels is doing more of the same replacing him. E Ross and Hornsby have struggled to date as well. Maybe Boobie can set up. Good to see him get a catch today.

I think KMG got his first serious PT replacing an injured Bryant and I thought the kid did okay. Something to build on.

UNC looked very good on defense today. Unless something crazy happens,we are going to have a hell of a time getting more than 14 points against them. I hope our defense and special teams play really well or we are all gonna end up with rocks for Halloween.

I stopped reading when you said you see why Rickie is starting.
I hate to say it but somehow Fran needs to do whatever needs to be done to win on Friday. Last year built up a lot of good will but 4 blowouts in a row, and a loss to a bad Carolina team will pretty much waste all that, with 2 rough road games coming up.

Re Collins, when you are getting blown out in every game he has started and in each of the 4 games you failed to score over 20 points in a single game, there is zero visual evidence to show Fran is making the correct decision to start Collins. Being able to hit 1 in every 10-15 throws is not it.

The call on the punt was that the ball broke the verical plane of the goal line.

Although there was no camera angle that actually showed that.

There was no doubt it was a bad spot and should've been a first down. I also agreed with the replay discussion that there wasn't enough to overturn the call on the field:

It’s beating a dead horse but Rickie missed, IMO, more throws by a wider margin than we’ve even seen to date. I actually can’t remember passes being so far away from their intended target in any of our games before and I’ve been watching since 1992
Can't beat a dead horse enough

Collins is the literally the worst starting college football quarterback in the country.

He was 17-29 throwing passes today. Yes, he missed some throws and no one is saying he is doing a good job right now.

But I think making things up to support your position is sad.

Saying he throws a good ball 1 time in every 10-15 passes doesn't mean others aren't completed. You can make completions on terrible throws. 17-29 throwing to open WRs is not good. Even some of his completions are not on target, and losing a ton of yards. Like that pass to Cook was a completion, but was an awful pass. What about the other completion that was hit up in the air twice and caught by one of our guys that counted as well. If you watched the game and thought he did a good job today, then I won't argue with you at all.

Watch ALL-22 when it comes out and you will see how terrible he was today.

Such a frustrating game and frustrating season. With Steve, we are maybe 6-2 or better.

I somehow knew when Willis came up a half yard short that we wouldn't score a TD.

The refs were not our friends today, but it wasn't totally one sided. Sure looked like Nixon got that 4th down.

Third quarter, 4 and 1, on our 35 - GO FOR it! We weren't stopping them - play to win, we were already losing.

This really sucks!!!!

But would we really be 6-2 with our defense?

The first down that we all thought was apparent on the 3rd and 1 was to go with the call on the field because they could not CONCLUSIVELY tell that he made the first down. They did spend a lot of conversation on that decision. They just could not see enough to go against the call on the field. (It was conclusive to those of us watching at the sports bar though)

I did see some some improvement from Rickie today, and maybe I am the only one. He seemed to make faster decisions, especially when he did decide to run. I'll also say he was trying too hard and thus the fumble on his run. He kept trying to make another yard instead of knowing his forward progress was over. I also thought he looked less "deer in the headlights" nervous.

How do we miss this throw for example.

I didnt know this was a thing. The claim is that even if a punted ball bounces outside of the goal line, is never touched by a player inside the goal line, if the ball bounces in the air, "crosses" the plane of the goal line, and is batted back out by a player while that player is outside the goal line, its a touch back.

that is a stuuuuuuupid and no fun rule that takes away from the aesthetic of the game. I hate it. i dont think its that way in the NFL.
