My Take

It’s beating a dead horse but Rickie missed, IMO, more throws by a wider margin than we’ve even seen to date. I actually can’t remember passes being so far away from their intended target in any of our games before and I’ve been watching since 1992

He also missed guys who were wide open as he’s done every single game. The playcalling looks more atrocious because of the QB running the offense. You put a backup from Akron in the game and he’d make some of those passes and the offensive playcalling wouldn’t look so bad.

Agreed - GT converted 9-13 3rd & 4th downs, completed > 80% of their passes and averaged 6.5 yards per carry. The defense is atrocious and that is squarely on Erob - there’s enough talent to not be that horrible.
Agree and as I said in game thread, they should have had TD on first drive and when they missed the receiver on a busted coverage in the first half.

Can't beat a dead horse enough

Collins is the literally the worst starting college football quarterback in the country.
He’s not. Listen, you were the one who put “literally” in there. Not me.

He’s struggling. But the QB indignation on this board is ridiculous. Our second-string QB is sub-par. As if we are the first and only program to fend with this reality. It’s a tale as old as college football. And those who incessantly assert that Fran is sticking to Rickie to prove a point or to appease a NIL donor, or offer that it is proof that Fran cannot coach or is over his head (and the clock is ticking), … well I’d offer that you are the easily the worst of the SU fans among us.

We are in the midst of having strong to stellar QB play three times in four years: McCord/2024 end (a few games this year) and the next two years. Eventually, Fran will up that to 9/10 years. But right now, we are in the depths of struggle. This is the once in four year stretch.

We are struggling on offense and losing games. It is not ideal obviously, but also not “embarrassing,” a word I saw about 100 times on this board.

It is called sport. It is unscripted.

I am excited for next week/UNC and subsequently next season. I cannot wait for Angeli to throw for 350+ yards and to hear complaints from the dozens of QB whisperers on this board about how he might not be mobile enough, he takes too many sacks, his footwork is adrift or how Jeff Nixon is still a craptastic OC because his son (a totally viable P4 player) had eight carries. Wow. Some of the sh-!!-t I (wittingly!) read on this board is remarkable.

He was 17-29 throwing passes today. Yes, he missed some throws and no one is saying he is doing a good job right now.

But I think making things up to support your position is sad.
He missed some throws bye 5 yds or more. He had wide open people all game long. Carney could at least hit Gill on outs without sailing ball 4 yds over a 6'3" guy eho can jump out of the gym. We are not winning anymore games with him at qb no matter how much i love brown as our coach. I honestly feel we would be in that game way more if Steve was here playing. We put too much pressure on our defense and quick 3 and outs and d is back out there is tough.

I don't mind Nixon getting playing time at all. I'd like to see more Hill going forward, in addition to Nixon and Willis. What frustrates me is going to Nixon on 3rd and 2 up the middle where he gets stuffed after doing his little three step jig in the backfield. Maybe he has to wait for our line to open the hole, but, man, it's beyond predictable.

Most of us aren't incessantly asserting anything though.

Rickie is epically bad, and the team so far has generally refused to try other options and been a bit dodgy and inconsistent answering questions about it in the pressers. That doesn't really add up--and that makes a bad situation all the more uncomfortable--so we float potential ideas that could make sense of the situation.

Admire your unbridled optimism and support of the team. I just have a very different opinion of Collins and would like to see someone else get a chance in a real game before it's a blowout. Collins is not the guy and first half stats support that position. He is ineffective until defense is in the prevent mode.

BTW, I heard at the stadium from a VG source that Carney wants to Redshirt this year. He only can play in two more regular season games.

Now, there's something I've been wondering about.

Are Luke (and his family) requesting the redshirt?

In other words, the person keeping Luke on the bench is Luke.

Fran isn't being stubborn. He's honoring a deal (I'm just spit-balling. This and $3 will get you a coffee.)

2 ideas that make zero sense in today's pay for play game are "red shirt" and "give the coach a couple years to get his guys" . we've watched teams transfer/buy their way from worst to first.
i don't like it but that's college sports now. i can accept it . the honeymoons are over. swept over the unstoppable niagara falls of cash and greed. you either buy in or you die.

such a great post

If he’s requesting to redshirt over what’s good for the team then he can hit the portal at anytime. Average qb play would have gotten this team to a bowl. He can redshirt next year when qb1 is healthy.

i have a feeling that the coaching staff is not on the same page either. something is not in sync with that group. fran needs to evaluate himself as well. the other qbs must be REALLY not ready if he stays with collins. but its all not on ricky, except for out lickers we are just plain bad. undisciplined, and bad leadership.
Lickers?

I urge you to come back to this post in 2-3 years and realize how ridiculous you sound.

Fran has Collins starting. He is trying to win. Period. “Fans” that scrutinize/parse HC every press availability like it is a deposition are the worst among us, most especially those that think they find “gotcha” quotes.

Says you. About him.

As if “average QB play” often comes from a slightly undersized kid that graduated from high school 5-6 months ago. All the simpletons/pessimists here have “Backup QB” Fever. It’s always the answer. 🙄

No question the D could be better, but when you have an O that can’t sustain drives, it makes the D look worse than it really is,eg, the Pitt game.

D gets tired and frustrated when it is constantly on the field.

I recall that was his plan all along. On the day he signed, I believe he mentioned he was going to redshirt his first year (and that was before Angeli). However considering the current situation, his position could have changed but I guess not.

If you’ve got evidence that Rickie is the best option and/or that skepticism is unwarranted, that would be most welcome. However, saying things like (“worst among us” and “simpletons”) doesn’t really give that impression.

And “the coaches are trying to win” is a good message, but I already agree with that. I also agree with backup fever being an issue here. I just don’t think the coaches are beyond questioning, and they’re certainly not beyond making mistakes.

This is good info and would help fill in the “something we don’t know that can make sense of the situation” gap.

If the season is gone regardless, seems reasonable not to piss off next year’s QB2 and his family. And it’s not something they can really announce publicly.

1. He can redshirt next year if he is still here. If he isn’t, why do we care about his redshirt?

2. If he wanted to redshirt this year, why did he come here early?
