My Take

Am I crazy or was that a terrible call when we appeared to down the ball inside the 1 yard line and the refs called a touchback?
It was hard to tell since they never showed an angle in line with the goal line. The ref was right there straddling the line and seemed to be staring at the ball to see if it crossed the line in the air. I guess I didn't know the rule. I thought that in college it could be batted/thrown back as long as neither the ball or player touched the ground in the endzone.

The ref that was right there didn’t call it a touchback. The sideline ref did.

1. He can redshirt next year if he is still here. If he isn’t, why do we care about his redshirt?

2. If he wanted to redshirt this year, why did he come here early?
I get that there is no loyalty anymore.

I assume this is to give him options to transfer or to be the main guy at Cuse in '28 and '29 if Angeli predicts.

Is college football really all about talent?
Does coaching matter that much anymore?
Or are our guys (i.e. the coaches) just not that good?

It's very much about talent. A terrible QB is very difficult to overcome.

Yeah, I get that. But I thought "Big guys push around little guys". And we have certainly loaded up on big guys in the last couple years. We absolutely look the part getting off the bus.

Maybe the coaches are a little too concerned with creating "good young men", at the expense of some real nasty. We lack attitude on our lines. We have huge guys, but we play soft.

Either the coaches didn't judge the players well, or are not instructing / motivating them well enough. Our line play shouldn't be this bad. But on the bright side, at least our DC has discovered the blitz in the last month or so.

Maybe we need to hire an offensive specialist nicknamed "Dr. Block"?

If he’s requesting to redshirt over what’s good for the team then he can hit the portal at anytime. Average qb play would have gotten this team to a bowl. He can redshirt next year when qb1 is healthy.
I wonder if the decision to redshirt was made after the 6 snaps Carney was given.

1 and 2 aren’t related. We don’t know when the decision to redshirt was made. Maybe it was made after Fran stuck with Rickie a game or 2 ago.

Back to irrelevance really sucks. I was hopeful that these coaches could patch together a functional team. Very surprised that we suck so bad.

We won games by tailoring offenses to limited lineups in the past, and still won a few games. (Zach Mahoney, Dan Villari, and a few other back ups when our starting QBs got injured come to mind.)

It's been a month. You have to figure out how to play football, guys. What the heck, this is really underachieving.

You've got to do better. Show us that elite recruiters can actually COACH, too.

Now, there's something I've been wondering about.

Are Luke (and his family) requesting the redshirt?

In other words, the person keeping Luke on the bench is Luke.

Fran isn't being stubborn. He's honoring a deal (I'm just spit-balling. This and $3 will get you a coffee.)

But then why wouldn't he be running the scout team and have either Jakhari or Belin getting all the backup snaps?

BTW, I heard at the stadium from a VG source that Carney wants to Redshirt this year. He only can play in two more regular season games.
I wonder if he is thinking of transferring. Could be why he wants to keep his redshirt.

Probably after getting yanked without a chance to show what he could do for ,someone who had shown no ability to put points on the board. He probably realized he wasn't going to play here.

Our line play should be better, but it has been good enough to have plenty recievers wide open that the QB can't manage to see or throw to. The other teams know this, so they don't respect the pass and load up on the run.
