My Take

My comp for Kiyan is…. Poetry.

Both are athletic, but not elite athletes.
Both crafty and have a multitude of ways to score, and are just smooooth and don’t get sped up.
They know how to get to their spots and do so on the regular.

And both as Frosh were guys not expected to contribute much early,
but then came in and balled out and earned their minutes.
Wait til the dome actually fills up and Kiyan starts making plays. Melo and LaLa on camera is going to make the place go crazy.

LaLa was actually really reserved last night for how well he played. She's knows every move she makes will be on camera though.

If she's going crazy cheering on the sideline the trolls will be like oh your kid is beating up Binghamton, that's not an accomplishment. Instead she was like this is expected, this is just business as usual. Their family is as smart as it gets with the media.

Significant improvement from the exhibition game and a pleasant upgrade in terms of talent and athleticism. Early it is, but the run n gun appears to be alive and well. 3pt shooting was shaky except for George, who's smooth and in control (8 assists). Kyle is a human highlight reel. And the Freeman/White combo might be the best forward tandem I've seen in years. Anthony didn't look like a frosh - he is versatile (as you mention) and is going to help us. Betsy has nice shooting form - he's going to be dangerous.

Did you catch Devo's observation - the team plays better when George looks to score. Yep. He's going to draw attention and create space for others. This is going to be a fun year.

Thanks for the recap, Tom. I had theatre tickets tonight and missed the entire game, but your recap gave me a good sense of it.

I think they might have replays online on the ESPN website, under their ACC Network coverage.

Didnt watch the game but read through the recaps (thx SUTCat and others), and saw highlights.
My first reaction was " Now, that's more like it".
This was like a walk through memory lane, when SU basketball was KING of NY.
So, so glad to know the guys went ballz out on effort and defense from the opening tap, and didn't let up. Have to believe that Red is the reason why. I hope he relayed the importance of effort and D after that lackluster exhibition game. Most importantly, that the guys listened and executed.
Sounds like the O was much more fluid and our new PG played like the player we are expecting to see all season long.
Will make some free time to watch the full game, but overall very excited, relieved, and happy w/ this outcome! LGO

Not sure where to post this, but I think Devendorf is great at color commentary and announcing cuse hoops.
I really enjoyed the expert insights he is able to bring to the game. He isn't Tony Romo, but he is getting good at explaining to the casual fine why certain things are working and/or not working or what Syracuse should do ti improve. Good stuff.

I see where you are coming from but last year at UCLA, Kyle averaged less than 3 ppg and 2 rpg. Faried graduated as the all time leading rebounder in NCAA history.
yeah bc he played at morehead state

if kyle stayed at a small school for 4 years he could put up similar number

faried is a 6'8 center who can jump and doesnt really shoot...high energy

i never said they are exactly the same...but there isnt a better comp out there imo

I think it’s going to be much more of a toss up who will lead SU in 3 pointers this season for the Iggy awards.
happy with my pick of george - he has a nice chot and will have the ball in his hands more than any other guard, esp late in clock

dont think he will have highest shooting % from 3 but thats a diff stat

What I really liked about our interior defense was the quick double teams when the opposing big man got the ball in the low post. Weak side help to cut off the baseline and double team the guy with the ball worked really well. Well executed. Yes, it was Binghamton, but they had a couple legit big guys who could play.

That Lilley guy for Binghamton is legit, strong and a great rebounder - tough player.

I will be honest. I was worried about Nat,George and the way he played in the two exhibition games. He had a bunch of unforced turnovers and really looked sloppy and unfocused. He was terrific today. His defense was great. 5 steals. He passed it well and when he had a shot, he took it and often made it. It is so nice to have a plane card with great vision who is good at throwing the alley oop. Very little in the way of the pick and roll, which I find interesting and kind of puzzling. I think he’s really good at running it, and I’m guessing we’re trying to avoid using it much until Vegas. Time will tell.
This typo reminded me of when Michael Scott couldn’t read his own handwriting, and said he and Holly were “soup snakes” until he realized he had written “soul mates.”

Lilley still had 17 pts, 13 rebounds...it wasnt his fault they lost by 40

I thought binghamton did have some success when they got the ball near the rim...and they didnt seem a very good team at that in general...

I did like the way the guys seemed to helping and communicating and really trying to make every interior attempt by binghamton either contested, blocked or a foul...so often in recent seasons, those plays have been simply uncontested.

im still unsure of how the interior defense will hold up against the big boys...
