“Why do you keep doing this to yourself, week after week, year after year?”

Since it puts you into a depression, can’t you drop this program or at least just go to have fun and enjoy the experience with your family? Clearly she isn’t wired like me, never witnessed them play in the 90’s and still holds out hope that those days will return. She does have a point, probably the definition of insanity.

I get so frustrated. I believe I am just going to have to record the games and see the outcome after the game is over to see if I want to watch it. My wife also knows when they lose because I’m angry and depressed for the remainder of the weekend. My 14 year old son kiddingly asked me last week why we aren’t Clemson fans.

After waiting almost two years to see SU football again in person yesterday was a huge disappointment and as I left the dome I told my wife, “This is not fun anymore.”

We always take two or three road trips to see the team play on the road. After yesterday I decided we are not wasting our money on hotels, meals, gas, and tickets to see this team play in NC or VA.

My interest in SU football is at an all time low.

The Grob years forced me to find a new fall hobby so I started archery and gun hunting. Before that fall was all football all the time. If I wasn’t at the game I was in a bar or at someone’s house for a game watching party. For all intensive purposes SU football is dead. I can’t give tickets away and I can’t find enough people interested in watching crappy football even on tv. Syracuse has killed off football in CNY over the last 20 years. It’s a shame.

When Pat Dye kicked the field goal, I was pi$$ed.

When we lost to the Illini in '89, I drove around aimlessly for hours.

When Gedney was tackled three yards short, I was crushed.

When we lost to Kentucky in '96, I got no sleep.

Losses would put me in a bad mood. Sometimes for days.

Kind of ironic that yesterday's game was on the date it was,

20 years ago yesterday at exactly 9:03 AM (and I know this because I was looking at my watch with increasing irritation, wondering why the PATH doors were not opening because I was already late), had the second tower come crashing down immediately rather than having been able to withstand an airplane plowing into it, I would not be posting this as I would not be here.

No loss has been anything more than mildly irritating ever since.

My wife took so much pity on my fan hood she asked this morning- I think in all seriousness- what can Syracuse do to get better at football? Then politely listened for the next 15 minutes to my diatribe. That’s how I know how bad things have gotten.

Now that my yearly 'glimmer of hope' that SU football will rebound has been crushed again, I can go back to enjoying the rest of college football. Bama-Fl, Aub-Ped St, GA-SC on slate for next week.
I am sure I will still torture myself and follow the SU games but there will be a bit more of a 'meh' feeling.

You’ll be happy to know that the amount of time of that angst and depression last shorter and shorter the older you get.

All I ask is for mediocrity. We are just plain bad, one of the worst P5 programs. I would be ecstatic to get to the 6-6 mediocrity of the final few P years. That's how low my hopes have gotten.

Here’s a sliver (maybe) of hope. If he doesn’t wait until the season is lost with seven losses, and pulls number 13 for number 16 sooner rather than later there’s still hope for the season (translation six or seven wins and a bowl game).

That’s how profoundly important that position is in the sport, probably no more important position in any sport. But now that I have concluded the Dino it’s just another meat head football coach I’m not holding my breath, but I AM still hoping! Lol

How dare you pull this out today! Yesterday was bad enough. All of Cleveland just woke up feeling dangerous.

[Insert Morgan Freeman: “He’s right, you know”]

What channel is the Albany game on next week?

100% the right attitude, for whatever reason my mentality won’t let me have perspective. I once again am miserable. The five stages of an SU bubble bursted.
1. Anger -post game
2. Misery-next several hours
3. Depression- All day Sunday
4. Acceptance-Monday
5. Rejuvenation- I start the process of finding hope again.
“Well we have a awesome defense, one of these QBs is going to a step up and you know ……………….

I JUST said this out-loud before seeing your post.

Ya. I have tickets to the NC State game and was going to take the whole family. Reconsidering that now

Yeah at least I’ve got my gambling habit! Last night I laid a hefty sum on Arkansas and it paid off. Normally I wouldn’t of bet so much but doing so made me forget about the Orange and root hard for the Hogs.
I wouldn’t recommend this strategy to people because it doesn’t always work out to well.

You buy a lottery ticket every week because you are stupid with money and you must like the people at the convenience store.
Or he has plenty of disposable income and does what he wants with his money.
