If you aren't sure you'll be eligible, you basically have to enter the portal. Syracuse can't save a spot just for him not to get a waiver. If he gets a waiver and gerry says he'll start, which I would do, maybe he'll come back. Gotta keep his options open though. I hope he gets a waiver and we re-recruit him.

I don't understand how being in the portal extends his potential eligibility to remain at Syracuse if he gets the waiver. What am I missing? I understand how if he wasn't in the portal he couldn't move to another school (unless the NCAA includes that in the waiver). Entering the portal extends his options.

The NCAA may not rule on his waiver until July-August. If he doesn't enter the portal, his only option would be to return to Syracuse, if we still have room.

I could be wrong but I think you're right in that being in the portal doesn't have anything to do with his eligibility. For Kingz, it makes sense though because if he does get another year, he can go to another school if Syracuse recruits over him. It gives him more options... come back to cuse or move on. If he doesn't enter the portal, he can only play at Syracuse if the waiver is granted. At least that's how i see it.

Agreed, which is why it makes sense for Kingz to enter the portal, even if he prefers to stay. Teams have to move on and plan without him. Therefore, he needs to maximize his flexibility
