Just to throw this out there. He wanted the job at one point and the job is arguably better now.

Interested is your thoughts - mine are mixed.

As weird as it sounds - I don't think we know enough about how he'd be as a HC. I'd trust his offense, but would have more hope with Babers, Campbell, Frost, etc.

In short: too risky.

I like the idea... an offensive mind, pedigree, knows the cuse, and he chose the football coaching life over medical school. Sounds like it all adds up to an offensive mind, capable of scheming and in-game smarts.

I wonder if we will apply?
He seemed to have a lot of support if I remember correctly.

Not as HC but I would consider him again for OC.
Actually OC, and Associate Head Coach with Scott, that way you have an offensive mind, and defensive mind, possible best of both worlds.

That opportunity passed when Marrone took him to Buffalo. That ship has sailed.

Very interesting thought. I said at the tailgate on Saturday - if we had hired Hackett instead of Shafer - where would Syracuse be right now? Better, worse, or the same?

That's an interesting scenario but do you think Hackett would have turned down an OC job in the NFL to stay in Syracuse?

I'm going to guess same.

How about Brian Schottenheimer, you guys?!?!
The fans in Georgia are killing him and he is getting beaten up bad right now in the press down there. Not sure he is the right hire right now with all of the negative press he is getting. Gonna make a guy your head coach after he has been fired or as he is about to gets fired from being an OC? That would be a tough sell.

I would not rule it out. I wanted him over Shafer at the time. I do not have a good sense of his recruiting abilities though.

Pretty sure he was being sarcastic.

Hackett as head coach, Daoust as defensive coordinator, 8-4 regular season in 2013 (not gagging away those Pitt and Penn State games), and much better today.

Wild conjecture to be sure, but arexwe sure Shafer would have left it Hackett got the job? Would anyone else have stayed?

There is little question in my mind that we would be better off. Our defense would have been pretty much the same if not better and we would not have suffered McDonald or Lester.

The HC job came down to Hackett and Shafer and the runner-up wasn't staying, and the winner was cleaning out most of the coaching staff. I know the timing was awful, but the coaches who followed Marrone to Buffalo weren't thrown in the back of an Impala by Anselmo and taken west on the thruway, they were all pursuing opportunities that entire season.

I believe he was recruiting coordinator at Stanford in 2005

Then perhaps Daust would have been DC. Hackett might have hired a better staff - might not have also.
