NBA 2018-2019

I will say this about Vancouver it is super close to the US boarder. Like 10-15 miles. It’s not far from Seattle at all but again the Seattle trip is gone as well.

The Vancouver/Portland/Seattle are all pretty close to each other but yeah you are right.

Play the other conference home/home that 30 games then your division rivals 4 times 16 games, then the other ten teams in your conference 3 times 30 games.

That is 76 games. I am sure that is the starting point to reduce games. I would go down to the 62-66 range at the end.

I don't think it actually snows that much up there at sea level elevations. It's like England, in terms of the currents, and it rains a lot more than it snows.

That's creative.
They have to pay more players. Nobody is getting that SuperMax money because it ruins a franchise's ability to compete. Maybe you pay the top players a bit less in order to fund those extra roster spots. People like John Wall or Kemba Walker DO NOT deserve $170M contracts.
This next collective bargaining agreement is going to be much different, I think.
I feel the supermax solution is pretty simple.

Only count the contract for cap and luxury tax purposes up to the value of a regular max.

Owners will hate it, but you know what, they can suck it.

Just reduce the season to 66 games and find a way to make up the revenue.

Independent doctors appointed by the league is one step. I already saw that mentioned in an article. And yes,the Players Association ought to negotiate to shorten the season by about a month.
with tv ratings in the tank and advertising revenue at risk, of course there would be no pressure on association doctors to clear a superstar player

So the NBA couldn’t add a trophy mid season like soccer has outside of the league title.
Or they couldn’t have a tournament for the last 2 playoff spots and generate revenue that way.
Next time ask what the potential additional revenue streams are if you don’t know them.

It's amazing the way the NBA is dominated by off the court discussion and gossipy matters of that ilk. While it has given the league a 12 month season, the problem is people are more interested in all this drivel rather than the actual games.

Now we have a compelling final series and the talk seemed to finally shift to actual on court matters, but ALAS, the Durant injury now has taken over discussion again and all we are talking about is whose fault is it, yadda yadda...meanwhile there is a huge game 6 coming up in a very entertaining series..and nobody cares.

I've had multiple family members in the past week tell me that they never knew that basketball could be this entertaining, so the on court product is at least bringing in a few non-fans.

I remember someone (cant remember who, prob on twitter) made a half joking comment that basically now the nba regular season= the offseason, the playoffs=the regular season, and free agency/trades= the playoffs. It really is close to a 12 month a year deal now

Dennis Dodd on Dan Patrick

No, that's wrong. It was Ray Ratto

Fascinated to see what happens in tonight's game. I have a hard time believing the Warriors lose 3 in a row at Oracle with or without Durant.

I know the Raps fans will be over the moon either way, but it would be really cool for them to win it on their home floor.

oh, it's very easy if you simply wish away the myriad existing media rights contracts

TV ratings are great for the playoffs but they are stagnant in the regular season because it’s too long.

Yeah because the NBA would really reduce the schedule before their existing TV contracts expired anyway. They aren’t stupid.

Silver is actually a forward thinker and realizes the regular season is too long.
He is the one who has suggested a mid season trophy like European soccer.

The end of the season tournament is also what Silver has discussed.

I agree with this, but they are going to be under immense pressure if they don’t win tonight. In the game 7 against Philly everyone played hot potato just to get the ball to Kawhi.

I agree. Not that the Raptors wouldn't benefit from game 7 being played at home, but I'd expect that the pressure would be squarely on them if they lose this next game.

And none of the pressure would be on GS, who have been three / done that.

This was a long time ago now but I do recall from my college sports psychology class reading a study that showed home field advantage was real UP UNTIL game seven of a playoff series, and by the historical percentages the visiting team flipped it and won more than the home team.

For whatever that means for one game involving two teams, I can't say, but it's an interesting data point.

Happened last night in Boston.

That's interesting, I know there was a very long period of time in the NBA where like no one won game 7 on the road (I eyeballed Wiki real quick, Philly won the 82 conf finals on the road in Boston, and the next road team to win wasn't until 95; 20 straight wins for the home team) but it's happened a lot more recently. Home team still wins much more often than not, but it's not like we're going 20 straight with home teams winning

I watched the game 7 of 1995 Pacers-Knicks on NBA TV and Marv Albert said at the beginning of the game the Rockets the previous day the Rockets broke a 20 game home team winning a game 7 streak.
From 1982 Philadelphia at Boston thru Houston at Phoenix.

Yeah I think the study looked at MLB, NBA and NHL.

But, I mean, I got like, maybe a B- in that class and it was a long time ago, so...

So, does anybody know why Anthony Davis wants to play for the Lakers?

I can't understand it.

Total mess from owner to GM to coach.

Players hate each other.

Old Man LeBron doing weird LeBron things.

Like, what's the upside?

James still wins games when he plays. And LA is cool,... I guess

Rich Paul.
He signed with LeBron’s guy and he wants to be branded with LeBron so playing with LeBron is appealing to him.

I don’t get why Davis isn’t interested in the Bulls who need a savior and he is from there.
