NBA Draft deadlines, timeline to declare: What's next for Tyus Battle, Oshae Brissett?
- Two days after the NCAA Championship game, which takes place Monday, April 2, underclassmen can request feedback from the NBA Undergraduate Advisory Committee. That committee is made up of NBA executives and is designed to give prospects a fairly small window of where he might be selected in the upcoming draft. Those evaluations can be available to players about two to three weeks after an initial request. The final day for advisory requests is April 14. Making an advisory request does not mean the player is declaring for the draft. Last year, a reported 107 players asked for information from the committee.
- On April 22, 11:59 p.m., every underclassman who wants to declare for the draft needs to declare for the draft by submitting a letter to the NBA office. That's the deadline.
- On April 24, the NBA office will circulate a list of early-entry candidates. Only then can NBA teams contact those players to schedule workouts or watch workouts.
- On April 27, the combine invitations are sent to players.
- On May 16-20, the NBA Combine will be held in Chicago. Typically, about 70 players are invited to the combine, where they will be tested on various physical skills (running, jumping, etc.), weighed and measured. Some will compete in scrimmages. Some will compete in shooting drills. Some of the invited -- read lottery picks -- won't compete at all. The Chicago gym is crammed with all sorts of NBA coaches and talent evaluators.
- By May 30, 11:59 p.m. (10 days after the combine ends) -- potential early entrants who decide to stay in school must submit that request in writing to retain their college eligibility and continue their college careers.
