NBA Scout: "I'm hearing Malachi will be a top 10 pick."

He played out of position for us at SF.
I didn't think he was efficient for us but he can get to the rim and can shoot.

It is obvious the kid is going solidly first round.

He has the prototype NBA SG measurables.
It turns out that he has the wingspan of a Pterodactyl.

No. 10? Very nice. I just wish he'd played like a no. 10 all year, rather than just in the NCAA's. Still, it was part of really fun run, we all had a good time with it, so I guess that's the most we should expect ... anymore. :noidea:

I actually don't think Klay's D is that great... it's great in the context of what Golden State does but he's by no means a lockdown D guy. Great article on Klay on ESPN today... Klay Thompson dares you to underestimate him

The biggest concern I have about Mali is he doesn't seem to be the most explosive athlete out there so I do wonder how easily he can create his own shot against NBA defenders. He did pretty well against Brogdon so that was a good sign.
One Mr. J A Boeheim disagrees with you. He raved about Thompson's play on both ends of the court after coaching him on the USA World Championship team 2 years ago.

The funny thing is .. Mali's percentage went up in league play. He likes him the big moments!

Kinda. He shot 32% from three in his last ten ACC games. He started out on fire in ACC games in January but cooled off considerably later in the year.

Look I think that would be a disastrous pick if he went that high but to catch your reaction would be just about priceless.

You and a lot of other people are going to be disappointed, because I will be thrilled if he went that high.

I will be surprised if he went top 14 (lotto) but my fake scouting abilities are just not that good.

IMO (and my assessment of the current development landscape NCAA vs NBA) , all he needs to do is get drafted in the first round to validate this decision.

Go Mali

A league scout on Richardson's workout: "Phenomenal. It looked like last year's Porzingis workout. I'm hearing he's going in the Top 10."

I'll root like hell for him, but man, if my Bucks take him at 10, I will be so disappointed.

I'm glad to hear he's having phenomenal workouts. Good for him. I really hope he goes top 10. That would be just awesome for Mal. He gave us a Final Four and I am just thankful we had him for one year. I wish him nothing but the best of luck in the draft!

If you've been watching the playoffs, you wouldn't say that. Klay put in WORK against Harden, Lillard, and Westbrook. Look up Westbrook's shooting percentages. The Warriors play great team D, but Klay was physical and fundamentally sound. He doesn't get blocks or steals but he makes you take tough, tough shots.

Top 10, IMO is higher than I would have thought Mal would go, but if he does, good for him! I just hope he's super successful in the league--I don't think he's got anywhere near Klay Thompson potential, but it's a flattering comparison. I think Klay should be who he models his game after, although I could see a sort of James Harden lite as well. It's about time we got another star in the NBA beside Carmelo. Here's to Mal being the 2nd and Lydon being the 3rd.

Yah he was streaky toward the end of the season then shot better (.367) in the tourney. Part of the shooting woes could have been that he played more 3 later (when Howard starting getting minutes) where he's against a bigger player.

That's a great point. And he could have been dinged up by that point in the season. I think his Elite 8 performance was pretty convincing. If his moxie, hair, and step back move are working for him in the workouts I can see him going top 10. I not sure my jaw would drop if he did. I think he's sold himself well over the last couple of months.

One scout said his shooting percentage was a shot selection problem and not necessarily a shooting problem. He felt shot selection is something that could be fixed.

Please not Harden... That dude is a waste of talent.

Love Mal's potential. If the Knicks had a top 10 pick I'd have no problem with them taking him there. This kid is going to be one of the best NBA players we've put into the league in a while.

Agreed, I think he's one of those guys who's game translates much better to the NBA style than college.

That would be great! I think its been covered already in this thread but Malachi is the type of player the league is moving toward. He can shoot, he can shoot off the dribble, he can slash, pass and handle. Add his size plus position (SG) and GM's have to be thinking about GST when they look at him.

I hope he goes top 10. It would be great for Orange basketball. What a platform it will have been for Malachi!
