This is heartbreaking.
Unfortunately I think this dude's mind is just gone. It seems like multiple attempts have been made to help him, and he's just not rounding the corner. This is heartbreaking.
That, sadly, is the way severe mental illness so often plays out, as I painfully learned when I was married for a few years in the ‘80s to a brilliant woman who went from a William Smith dean’s list student to living in the YWCA, with a number of stays in psychiatric hospitals and one memorable trip to the emergency room to have her stomach pumped after she tried to commit suicide.Unfortunately I think this dude's mind is just gone. I didn't see ABA Doc, but I don't remember him being the shooter that KD is.Dr. J vs. Durant….I think that’s an interesting one and they should rank similarly.
So sorry for your experience. Being unable to institutionalize people (which I understand in the general since) has not done a lot of good for folks who cannot comprehend that they need help. Think of all the good that could be done if our foreign aid money went to mental health and bolstering other public benefits for those in need, but are unable to help themselves. That, sadly, is the way severe mental illness so often plays out, as I painfully learned when I was married for a few years in the ‘80s to a brilliant woman who went from a William Smith dean’s list student to living in the YWCA, with a number of stays in psychiatric hospitals and one memorable trip to the emergency room to have her stomach pumped after she tried to commit suicide.
I thought I could help her, but my doc, an old family acquaintance, told me I had to pull away, that her condition would only get worse over time.
Delonte also, it appears, has a severe drug addiction. You know how his story is going to end, just a matter of when. So, so sad.
Yeah, crazy. Thought he was on the mend, last I knew. This is heartbreaking.

It seems like more and more the 80s has been reduced to “Magic/Bird” and “Lakers/Celtics”. How many even realize anymore that the Sixers played the Lakers in the finals as many times as the Celtics did? And that the Sixers-Celtics were 2-2 against each other in the playoffs in that era? They faded sooner in the decade because Dr. J was older than Magic and Bird….and they traded Moses. But 3 finals and a title, and multiple other ECF runs, plus a finals run in ‘77.I don’t think Dr J is revered enough when talking about the history of the game, he was extremely talented and was a walking must-watch/must-see.
But you can argue KD is the greatest pure scorer in the history of the NBA. A seven footer that could shoot lights out from almost anywhere.
I feel like you're making a stronger case for KD's uniqueness than you are his greatness.I don’t think Dr J is revered enough when talking about the history of the game, he was extremely talented and was a walking must-watch/must-see.

Ehhhhhhhhhhhhh I don't know.I don’t think those two things are mutually exclusive in this instance and are directly connected.
I believe Dr. J’s career has been downplayed due to the fact most a large part of his prime was in the ABA. If he had played in the NBA the entire time then he would be ranked higher all time when people discuss these lists.
I guess? He has 2 ABA titles. His career spans the same era as Kareem. I'm not saying he is as good as Kareem, but it would be interesting to see where he would fit had those 2 ABA titles been NBA titles. His success with the Nets is talked about very little historically. But isn't generally thought of in the 11-25 ranking tho at the same time?
Ehhhhhhhhhhhhh I don't know.
Incredible scorer. I'm just not sure that's enough to place him in the top 10, because he's lacking some of the other stuff other guys in that tier have.I mean, KD is arguably the greatest scorer of all time.
I know he's kinda weird having burners and what not, but dude is a seven foot walking bucket that has had real success.

And don't get me wrong, I think KD is awesome. He still has time, but if he doesn't get another title, or at least another finals appearance or two, I think historically he'll be looked at mostly as an "accumulator" like they talk about in baseball. And I don't think that gets him in the top ten.I may absolutely have recency bias, as well. Fully admit that.

I think you're right on Duncan. Not splashy but just an exceptional basketball player no matter how you evaluate his game and career.Yeah, I waffle bw putting him in the top 10 and then I watch highlights of Shaq bw 00 - 02 and Hakeem just tearing dudes up like Admiral and Ewing and young Shaq... and I dunno. It's so hard.
Shaq's peak was so high and he was so dominant and Hakeem was so balletic as a big man, that it's hard to just say "KD can shoot from anywhere" is better than "Shaq could overpower literally anyone".
The main thing I cape for is Tim Duncan a top 10 lock. I will die on that hill.
Everybody sets "illegal screens". It's arbitrary when and how they get called. Hate it when they let it go all game then make a big demonstration of calling a game changing one late in the game.Payton sets illegal screens every single time. Problem here is that Williams avoided the contact. He has to run through that screen to get the call.
It generally just boils down to the defender flopping like a fish when he hits a screen. Otherwise the refs just don't care about them.Everybody sets "illegal screens".
