NC State fans welcome SU to the ACC

You can't blame them for not attending weekend games on account of NASCAR being on.

I will say that with the number of NY transplants in the Carolina's it is not a far fetched moniker that NC is really Southern NY :)

I live in a suburb of Charlotte and on my block alone there is myself, a guy Rochester, one from Buffalo, a lady from New Paltz, and another guy from Ogdensburg

The best one is they think that the reason we had so many fans at their game in Raleigh was because their fans didn't buy enough tickets. They should give Georgetown a call and tell them that.

They can't wait for JB to retire so our program can sink to the level of our football program.

I don't know that Hop can be as good as JB - but his recruiting ability along with the fact we have a huge travelling fan base for basketball (UNC, Duke, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Ohio State, Michigan State and then us probably), the biggest basketball stadium in the country and some of the best training facilities in the country lead me to think that we will always be good. We're like the giant football programs that will always be attractive to top recruits. There may be some drop off, but I'd say the worst we would be would be like the majority of teams from 1997-2008.

What part of Charlotte are you in. There is no doubt that there are a ton of transplants from NY in the charlotte area. There was a group of 30 that I went with to the SU vs NCSU. It was a good time.

I read the thread and have to say they are right about one thing. We are s. Im talking about Syracusians in general, It's just a different mentality as someone pointed out in the thread. The difference of course is that we love being s and don't really see it as a terrible thing. IMO.

If NCstate doesn't have enough s to sell out there arena I'm sure we will be happy to help out.

Did this bring a smile to anyone else's face? For some reason I enjoy the role of the heel.

Have you ever been to a game when playing Syracuse? They are some of the worse fans I've ever been around. Absolute *** holes.
Don't have an issue with Yankees but Syracuse fans are just plain jackasses
Those of you who have no problem with Syracuse will change your opinions once you start getting exposure to their fans. I'll guarantee it. They make Maryland fans look like southern belles.
Worst fans I've ever been around, by a longshot. And unfortunately, there's alot of'em around NC. Tailgating with them may turn into a battle royal if the way they acted at the bball game this year is the norm.

Wow, check out this thread. These guys STILL haven't gotten over our basketball game in Raleigh last December. (just copy/paste url and remove the space between s and c)

They sound terrified. No self respect. No confidence. Must come from all the years of losing.

I would be more worried if they weren't talking trash about us. It means we still matter.

We live in Ft Mill. I took the wife (both of us grew up in CNY) and kids (3 yr old twins) to the game in Raleigh as well. We stayed at an Embassy Suites or Double Tree (one of those indoor atrium hotels) and it was overrun with SU fans. We are going to be a traveling orange swarm with 7 ACC schools within a 4hr drive of Charlotte.

It wouldn't be a message board if you couldn't grossly exaggerate about your opponents fan base. Really, what kind of thread would it be if NCSU fans commended all Cuse fans for their superior knowledge of sports, exquisite hygiene, and extraordinary manners?

I'm with tomcat - their diatribe is testament to their fear of all things Cuse. :D

Nice. The wife and I live in Denver, NC up by Lake Norman. We plan to go to a few games whenever possible. I really hope ACC football championship and ACC tourny end up in Charlotte more than anywhere. It makes sense to have it here because of location and largest city NC. I will miss the BE but I guess it is on to a new chapter.

I don't know what these guys are talking about. I've been to plenty of games and have NEVER seen an SU fan start a fight. I know we have our fair share of bad apples, but I have to believe that any trash talking going on at the arena was the result of NC State fans getting up in our grills when they went on their early run and our folks were simply giving it back. (I'm also pretty sure there were slurs shouted out about the Bernie Fine crap too). They make it sound like SU fans are Bills or Eagles fans.

And they LIKE Pitt fans?! Boy are they in for a surprise. They will hate Pitt fans the first time they play in front of that copy cat ZOO student section of theirs. And they think they hate playing UNC and Duke because they get the calls? Wait until Dixon Ball comes to town. Might as well dress that court up like an octagon.

Some of their fans sound pretty ignorant and clueless.

Hey, I'm with you. Those were their words, not mine.

I know. It seems to be the norm among message board fans. i've seen a lot of Big East leftover boards saying that we'll suck once JB retires and I just don't see it. It's definitely possible, but I don't see it.

My favorite quote actually came when Nunes interviewed the NC State blogger during his "Meet Your New Neighbor" series.

"I'd be lying if I said it wasn't annoying; it's also something I've accepted as inevitable when certain teams are in town. There are tons of transplants from the northeast living in the triangle and that Syracuse turnout was pretty much just like the turnout every time the Sabres, Rangers, Penguins, etc. are in town to play the Hurricanes. So we're used to it. Sabres fans are my favorite. By which I mean they're the worst people in the world"

I would love to be able to couple a trip to watch SU play in Raleigh with the Sabres being in town. We take over their arenas when we play them and I love that they hate two of the teams I root the hardest for.

I live in Raleigh. They suffer from little brother syndrome. Everyone always talking about UNC and Duke, while they are always jumping and screaming for attention.

As somebody who was at PNC arena with 4 other SU fans, I can say I'm totally proud of our fan base for taking over that arena. It felt like Georgetown 2 or 3 years back before they started protecting their tickets at the MCI Center or Verizon Center (I don't remember which arena name it is now, nor do I care to). We absolutely took over and LET'S GO ORANGE chants were abundant. Now, I personally enjoyed the NC State fans and I had very few issues with them but I could tell as I left that their fans were ashamed of themselves for allowing their arena to be taken over by an opponent, an OCC one at that. Because of their shame, they got real butt-hurt about the chants and became embarrassed. I look forward to dominating their arena in the near future.

Now, reading their thread more and more just continues to make me laugh. One of them said they enjoyed the ACC feel back before Tech, Miami, and BC joined because Maryland and UVA gave them enough of a northern feel... UVA... a northern feel? What the --? That campus screams southern and that's coming from someone who has taken multiple trips to SEC & ACC schools like USC, VT, UNC, UVA, NC State, Clemson, and Wake Forest because I was figuring out where I wanted to go to school and I can tell you that UVA is more of a southern school than all those minus USC and maybe Clemson and that's including NC State's wanna-be UNC asses.

Pitiful group of fans they are. All pissy because their own fans didn't buy tickets to their home game.

Maybe their impression is that Syracuse fans are this...

As Tom will attest, they probably would not have liked me at the BET this past year. Even I realized that I was a . But so is life in guess.

Oh great. So now all of Carolina is a home game for us too?

Sounds like rutgers.

Well, I live in Pinehurst about an hour from Raleigh/Durham and 72% of the folks here are from the MW or NE, not the South. Also, lots of folks who went to Duke, UNC or NCS and just stayed after graduation. Have not found many SU fans. For me this is a dream come true - I will be within driving distance of 4 ACC venues (5 if you count an overnight to Blacksburg). So, I could care less how welcome we are - I am going to games in Orange from head to toe (except if I went to Clemson where I would have to add some blue).

Actually they are more like VT . Most natives here in NC that did not attend college do not actually root for UNC but instead (in my experience) are mostly NC State fans. The difference between UNC and State is very similar to UVA and VT. One is more middle to upper class and the other total redneck.
