NC State Postgame

This is JJ's season of FGs by zone. Very basic analytics here, but looking it this, I wouldn't want him taking any other shot but at the rim or a corner 3 (and the corner 3 percentage is very likely a small sample size). Instead, JJ is among the league leaders in % of shots taken in the paint and mid range twos where he has a FG% under 40(!).

Agreed. And btw, at this point in his career, this isn't on JJ, it's on Red. Why would JJ ever change if he's never been coached to?

JJ was open for a reason. They wanted him to shoot. And when he wasn’t open he still shot the ball including when Kingz was open in the second half. It was selfish.

I don't remember the Kingz snub, but I did watch the game.

JJ was 2-6 from 3 - 33%. That's not terrible.
George was 0-4 from three, and Betsey 1-3 - also 33%.

Two thirds of JJ's shots were inside the arc, so it's not like he forced it from three. They were mostly open looks with him moving without the ball.

Analytics wanted to keep JJ out of the midrange, and he got 5 buckets there.

Obviously it's been working since JJ has a career record of 52-53.

This is the first time you’ve seen a team quit? They quit last game lol
I guess so. But this is the first time I watched a full 40 minute game live this year and saw what the TV cameras didn’t pick up (along with paying good money) to watch that mess. Red pretty much pulled his five guys off the floor to play walk-ons because they quit on him.

All of you - if you want to make JJ the scapegoat, I can't stop you.

If he was our 4th option, like originally intended, this would be a good team.

But Donnie missed half the season so far. George is a disaster, and Kingz only occasionally is an outside threat. Fortunately for us, Kingz does a bunch of other things that Chris Bell never did.

Red was able to get them to run good offense for about 3 or 4 games on Donnie's return, but they stopped playing defense, and when games got tight, they reverted to ISO ball and other bad habits.

The defense was excellent in the early part of the season, but the effort just isn't there anymore.

Kiyan Anthony has been very poor. He has a scorer's mentality, but can't dribble into traffic and hold onto the ball. He requires bailout calls from refs, and then misses almost half his free throws.

Sadiq is a talented athlete, but is like an untrained puppy - emotional, impulsive, but bouncy as hell and willing to bite back. I like him.

Betsey and Soare are solid bench pieces and were good guys to recruit. Neither is a starter.

Yes, Betsey can get hot from 3, but his dribble drive to date is ineffective, and he underachieves on the boards. I do like his position defense, though. He moves his feet well for a pretty big guy. But he shouldn't start over Kingz. His 15 minutes a game feels right to me.

I like Will Kyle a lot. Such an enjoyable guy to watch. Wish we had had a better season for him.

If Red knew how to run a hi-low post offense, we might actually get something other than 3 point shots from our power forwards. Like low post buckets, fouls drawn, and offensive rebounds.

Just go watch tapes of the 2010 team, for chrissakes.

This season is not a failure because of JJ.

The kid is a Mickey Dees who never fulfilled his promise, but he was willing to sublimate his game so others could contribute for the good of the team.

This season is a failure because of Red and whole staff.
Simply put, he has no feel for how to be the lead dog of a program.
The experiment is over.
The University tried to get by on the cheap, under the guise of continuity.
It failed. Now we will see their intentions for the program.

Immature little douche
Let the kid celebrate however he wants. Your response seems a bit douchey. And thanks for the retaliatory dislike- very mature of you, just like response to Copeland’s celebration.

One more point, JJ had a very nice stretch of games where he was slashing to the basket, and getting shots like floaters from 10 feet and pull up jumpers, aside from getting to the basket.

Of course, he does miss too many at the rim, but sometimes his drives really lift the team and the crowd with a big dunk.

He's fast as hell on the break with the ball. He has positives. He is not the star of any good team. But he is a much more useful piece than you guys portray him as.

Who has been worse - Kiyan or JJ?
Who has been worse - Nait George or JJ?
Who has been worse - JaQuan Carlos (last year) or JJ?

Give the kid a break with all the hate. Did we hate on Greg Paulus like this when he came back to a disasterous spell as QB?

One note for this thread is that I’m really bummed how this season is playing out bc I think this roster has guys that are easy to root for.

I think Donnie is immensely talented. I love William Kyle. I like the guys on the team.

Even if JJ drives me nuts, I think he’s a good dude.

I can go on, but you get the point.

It’s really too bad. Seems like a good crew of guys. Lot of potential. Lot of individual talent that just isn’t harnessed correctly.
I feel terrible for Donnie and Kyle

This team looked like it was shot out of a cannon the first 3 games of the season. It was sooooo damn encouraging and I really thought we were on our way to a season of redemption and a tourney berth.

Almost no one wanted this. It sucks.
This. Ughh
