Obviously it's been working since JJ has a career record of 52-53.
All of you - if you want to make JJ the scapegoat, I can't stop you.
If he was our 4th option, like originally intended, this would be a good team.
But Donnie missed half the season so far. George is a disaster, and Kingz only occasionally is an outside threat. Fortunately for us, Kingz does a bunch of other things that Chris Bell never did.
Red was able to get them to run good offense for about 3 or 4 games on Donnie's return, but they stopped playing defense, and when games got tight, they reverted to ISO ball and other bad habits.
The defense was excellent in the early part of the season, but the effort just isn't there anymore.
Kiyan Anthony has been very poor. He has a scorer's mentality, but can't dribble into traffic and hold onto the ball. He requires bailout calls from refs, and then misses almost half his free throws.
Sadiq is a talented athlete, but is like an untrained puppy - emotional, impulsive, but bouncy as hell and willing to bite back. I like him.
Betsey and Soare are solid bench pieces and were good guys to recruit. Neither is a starter.
Yes, Betsey can get hot from 3, but his dribble drive to date is ineffective, and he underachieves on the boards. I do like his position defense, though. He moves his feet well for a pretty big guy. But he shouldn't start over Kingz. His 15 minutes a game feels right to me.
I like Will Kyle a lot. Such an enjoyable guy to watch. Wish we had had a better season for him.
If Red knew how to run a hi-low post offense, we might actually get something other than 3 point shots from our power forwards. Like low post buckets, fouls drawn, and offensive rebounds.
Just go watch tapes of the 2010 team, for chrissakes.
This season is not a failure because of JJ.
The kid is a Mickey Dees who never fulfilled his promise, but he was willing to sublimate his game so others could contribute for the good of the team.
This season is a failure because of Red and whole staff.
Simply put, he has no feel for how to be the lead dog of a program.
The experiment is over.
The University tried to get by on the cheap, under the guise of continuity.
It failed. Now we will see their intentions for the program.
