NCAA 1st Round Games for Fri March 21

Per ESPN article, the most impressive NCAA champion which was
lead by a freshman was SU and Carmelo. Jerry was also in the top 20 list. Don't see Flagg and Duke replacing Carmelo and SU if they happen to win it. Duke has a lot more pieces than SU had.

Ole Miss using JB's slide rule to try to eek this one out. Every possession goes down to 6 seconds or less.

The ACC has proven its the best conference at coming back from 25 point deficits and making things really close. This is what heart is. This is what grit is and this is why the ACC is the premier basketball conference in America!

ESPN’s article included DC at number 20. They included freshman that made the title game but came up short.

SEC already sliced in half from 14 to 7 teams (assuming I counted correctly).

They have 8 in to the round of 32 as of now (assuming a few games as noted below) with possibly a 9th if Oklahoma beats UConn.

Advanced
Auburn
Texas A&M
Ole Miss
Arkansas
Tennessee
Alabama
Florida (assumed - up 22)
Kentucky (assumed - up 8 at half vs Troy)

Oklahoma?

Out
Texas
Miss St
Vanderbilt
Georgia
Missouri

Yeah, I edited my post. Haha. I overlooked UK and OU.

Probably still a disappointing first round for the SEC. ( That being their real success (or lack of) probably starts to get defined in the round of 32, when the better teams start to face each other.)

I wouldn't expect their 6-11 seeds to be any better than other 6-11 seeds (basically those teams are equals in my view) but an overall record of 1-5 in those games is not good. Basically I would expect 3-3, so its 2 games under par.

Maybe WVU and Indiana instead of Texas and some other SEC school, but at the end of the day those 3 conferences were doing to dominate the # of seeds.

The SEC having 8 teams in the Top 24 seeds is amazing. But at the same time, teams that went 8-10 or 6-12 in the SEC did so for a reason. They weren't that good. Those teams are currently 1-4 with Oklahoma still left.

As of right now the Top 17 seeds are still alive. Is that more shocking or the fact that we have no OTs? And what is a buzzer beater? Just the first game?

Hasn't really been a 13-16 seed that really threatened at all in the last 10 minutes of the games... except maybe UNC Wilmington. Am I overlooking a game?

This has been one of the most boring first rounds I can remember.

I think a big part of it is the dominance of the 1-4 seeds. Not just winning, but for the most part controlling the games throughout and never really being threatened beyond halftime. Even without the upset, if there was 3 or 4 of the 16 games that were close with say 8 minutes to go it would have made it more entertaining.

MWC could go .500 in the first round (2-2).
That probably hasn't happened in a while.

Wouldn’t be surprised if you see more of this going forward. There’s an argument to be made that the MM and below aren’t as good because they can’t hold onto top talent.

Maybe with the portal and NIL you have very few of those teams that have been together for 4 years. Teams that aren’t that talented but have played together for so long they seem to hang around with anyone.

Robert Morris vs Alabama today

That's exactly it (and basically the same point that CuseFan0307 made above).

In the pre-NIL, one and done era, it actually provided opportunities for mid majors to compete with more experienced teams, against less experienced majors.

Now in NIL, you actually get less players who leave after year 2 and year 3 just to get drafted in the 2nd round (or not get drafted at all) and stick around the NCAA for the money. They hang around for top teams and those same teams clip the top mid-tier players.

Its a well known fact that Rick Pitino is having the St. John's sponsors funnel NIL money to Richard Pitino. #NotfairforRed
