We also have an annual talent drain from the mid-majors, as those players funnel up to power conference teams.That's exactly it (and basically the same point that CuseFan0307 made above).
In the pre-NIL, one and done era, it actually provided opportunities for mid majors to compete with more experienced teams, against less experienced majors.
Now in NIL, you actually get less players who leave after year 2 and year 3 just to get drafted in the 2nd round (or not get drafted at all) and stick around the NCAA for the money. They hang around for top teams and those same teams clip the top mid-tier players.
We’re not going to see mid majors who have a bunch of above average guys who have been there 3-4 years. The best of them portal out.
