Right after the Tate George miracle v Clemson.
I have no memory of the BE Tourney that year. How did we get worked by those schmucks. Scott Burrell was their best player? Not one of JBs better coaching jobs
That 1990 season was sunk when Kenny Anderson's Mom got handed that bag from Georgia Tech.

Kinda wild that Michigan's best player (Yaxel) was already in college while Benny Williams was still in high school. Lol

The big money guys behind the Duke program might be underwhelmed about tourney results the last couple years.
That's the single issue that all programs face with this crap system. Just what results at the end of the year will satisfy the donor base, especially the whales? The system has to be fed annually and if results don't meet expectations a lot of programs will be scratching and clawing to find the $$.

I'm curious as to what the expectations will be for GMac. Everyone here will have their own ideas, but it only matters what the big time donors are thinking. NIL funding is a yearly occurrence, and has to be earned every cycle.

Scheyer is an unbelievable recruiter and puts rosters together very well. But he is a very underwhelming in game coach. He always has the most talent but really falters down the stretch. Blew the Houston game last year and this game this year. He gets very tight and it doesn’t look like his players are ready to close games. They don’t have that killer instinct at Duke with Scheyer there. Maybe some of it has to do with so many young guys, but they never have that physicality.

Hurley is unbelievable. His players were ready for the moment. They compete and never quit. That to go along with Luke Murray sureing up the offensive philosophy has put UConn on another level the last 4 years. Quite amazing what they have been able to accomplish.

Yes, I hate UConn and Hurley is a psycho at times. But you can’t question his coaching ability. His guys play 110% and they always play tough. They don’t back down to anyone.

UConn is clearly the weakest team of this group. Would be an all timer if they pulled it off. Duke flat out choked for the second year in a row.
I think illinois is the weakest. Whoever wins game 2 congrats you are national champions.

Lack of senior or upper class leadership hurt Duke at the end. Just hold the ball, you don't have to advance it. Run out the clock and get fouled. The more you dribble or pass the greater the opportunity for a turnover. Boom. Usually I celebrate a Duke loss but after this one I felt like throwing up since there's no team I despise more than UConn.

Nah couldn't have been coaching job, didn't have enough NIL.

UConn had Chris Smith and Henefeld, a veteran of the Israeli pro league. They beat Georgetown who had Mourning and Mutumbo, in the semis of the BET.

That UConn team was not chopped liver.

We've made the FF 6 times in our entire program history. Uconn has made 8 FF since '99...
After their 5th I stopped getting mad. The fact they've won 6 in the hardest era to do it is amazing. UCLA won most of theirs when 40 teams cared and you had to win 3 games in the Tournament. Kentucky got some of theirs before integration. They're above everyone, not just us.

Watched a condensed version of that BE Championship game. Uconn seemed to run a press and SU played out of control and lacked a true PG that year, still should have beat them.

Aw, I feel so, so bad for the Dookies.

This game was devil v. devil. I don’t feel bad for them, but I would like Hurley to get a T when he gets in the face of a ref and glares at him (possibly headbutts him)… y’know, like every other coach would in that moment. Let’s not give the crazy butthole more rope to be a crazy butthole.

I really don't think he was complaining about what had just transpired. Referees are entitled to use a little common sense.
Silly stuff.
