Correct. I imagine this is happening much more than people realize.
when you watch games and know what the point spread is, its hard to resist thinking that the players and coaches aren't also keenly aware of what the spread is as well (at least for me, anyway)

What’s nice about legal sports betting is it’s much easier to catch this stuff now. It increases access to gambling, sure, but there is much more transparency and it pushes out illegal bookies.
I’m not so sure it wasn’t better when you only had bookies and point spreads.I mean now that you can bet on just about any play or stat makes it easy for players to control the outcome of a wager.

Player props are how a lot of athletes get caught because it’s easy for the sportsbooks to spot unusual bets.

NY and some other states also don’t allow player prop bets on college games.

Would also like to see outlawing of microbets like next player to score. Bets on individual pitches are where the MLB players are getting busted.

I think live bets, like next player to score, are hard to manipulate. It would require somebody having real-time communication with a player and also that the player can score. In basketball, sure, the player could make sure he’s putting up the next shot, but there’s no guarantee he can score. In football, it would be impossible.

Baseball has a slower pace and the bets that got that one pitcher investigated were bets on the first pitch of an inning. Sitting there for half an inning creates a lot more opportunity to communicate with players vs. trying it during a timeout or something in other sports.
