Neal...

I think we saw exactly why fredericks isnt playing today on the one play.
Dont agree. He is our best running back. If assignment issues are keeping him off the field fine. If not he needs the rock. The kid is a stud.

how complicated can telling the oline what to do be? its not like they have to read the D do they?
Typically the read comes from the sideline from Lewis, but the RB would still need to know what to look for and where to line of up for each play.

if you watch the RB he barely even looks at the D when he calls the blocking, just wonder how many line calls they make that are different.

I dont think it matters what you and i think but i think its versatility that keeps strickland on the field and not assignments.

whether they like or don't like fredericks moe neal is not a running back in the ACC. the dude is a slot guy and that is it, he had better be able to catch. if they are trying to teach fredericks a lesson, I'm fine with it but at some point you have to play the better guy. why should the running back be calling the protections anyway

Point is that RB's making the line calls is a part of the scheme and if he cant do it, he doesn't play, simple. I am sure that there is a reason for why the RB's call the blocking schemes and combine that with Fredericks not being a good receiver or blocker it makes sense why he is not in there.

He is a liability on every play we pass and that is a lot of plays.

Then they need to work on that. As far as a running back running the ball, Fredericks is the best we have.

Not doubting that at all. Saying that he can't play if he can't do what is asked. Moe and Strick don't have a problem with it so it can't be rocketship science to learn it.

If its because he can't make a line call fine but have a different play call than a power run with a 170lb. RB.

I have zero inside information, but Dino and staff seem like the types of coaches if you can't do it all 100% you will not play and I'm 100% okay with this even if it's our "best" player at the position.

Agree. I don't really know what's going on, but if he doesn't really know where to line up or fully get the offense, then he just can't play as much. How is he going to pick up a blitz? By getting lucky?

In fairness, that's pretty much how Moe would have to pick one up.

So you think he doesn't know where to be and who to pick up or that he will just get steamrolled because of his size?

I want to see Fredericks on the field but if we can't give Dino the benefit of the doubt on these types of personnel decisions then what are we doing here?

(That said, putting Neal in on 3rd and goal from the 1, after a review of the previous play so we had plenty of time for any personnel changes, was just a big fat head scratcher.)

Ha, no, I mean Moe is so small the only way he can block somebody is by getting lucky.

If he jumps at the point of attack, I like his chances to get in the way.

Soaking wet, I don't think Mo and Riley combined weigh as much as Estime.

We have another coach at SU (non-football) who has done pretty well for a long time using this same philosophy.
