Team Stats:
(I’ve decided to put the team that won the stat in bold and ties in italics.)

POSSESSION

Rebounding
(Add each team’s offensive rebounds to their opponent’s defensive rebounds. Then figure the offensive rebounds as a percentage of that)

We rebounded 10 of our 36 misses = 27.8%
They rebounded 8 of their 35 misses = 22.9%

Effective Offensive Rebounding
(Divide second chance points by the offensive rebounds)

We got 9 points on 10 O-Rebs = 0.900 points/O-reb
They got 5 points on 8 O-Rebs = 0.625 points/O-reb

Unforced Turnovers
(Total turnovers – the other team’s steals = unforced turnovers)

We had 11 turnovers – 5 steals = 6 unforced
They had 11 turnovers – 5 steals = 6 unforced

Points per Takeaway
(Points off turnovers divided by the number of turnovers the other team had)

We had 15 points from 11 takeaways = 1.364 points/takeaway
They had 4 points from 11 takeaways = 0.364 points/takeaway

Unsettled Situations
(Effective offensive rebounding + Points per Takeaway: [Second Chance Point + Points off Turnovers] divided by [Offensive Rebounds + Opposition Turnovers)

We had 24 points in 21 unsettled situations = 1.143 points
They had 9 points in 19 unsettled situations = 0.474 points

Manufactured Possessions
(One teams rebounds + the other team’s turnovers)

We had 37 + 11 = 48
They had 34 + 11 = 45

Scoring

Shooting
(shots made and attempted and the percentage for two point goal attempts, three point attempts and free throws)

We were 13 for 29 on twos, (44.8%), 7 for 20 on threes (35.0%) and 13 for 23 on frees (56.5%)
They were 10 for 20 on twos, (50.0%), 11 for 32 on threes (34.4%) and 3 for 10 on frees (30.0%)

Points
(PIP= points in the paint, POP = points outside the paint, which is total points – PIP –free throws made, TREY: points from three point shots, TZ= Twilight Zone, which is POP – TREY, two point jumpers from outside the paint, FBP = fast break points POTO= points off turnovers)

We had 20 PIP, 27 POP, 21 TREY, 6 TZ, 15 POTO, 6 FBP
They had 18 PIP, 35 POP, 33 TREY, 2 TZ, 4 POTO, 2 FBP

Fast Break Percentage
(FBP/(defensive rebounds + blocks + steals)

We scored 6 FBP in 34 opportunities (17.6%)
They scored 2 FBP in 34 opportunities (5.9%)

First Chance/Second Chance
(FCP is First Chance Points, which is total points - second chance points – fast break points – free throws made. SCP is second chance points.)

We had 32 FCP and 9 SCP
They had 46 FCP and 5 SCP

Last Possessions
(Points scored on the last full possession of a half, a game or an overtime period.)

We scored 4 points
They scored 0 points

Starters/Bench
(Total points – bench points = starters points)

Our starters scored 60 points and our bench scored 0 points
Their starters scored 44 points and their bench scored 12 points

Assists
(The percentage of a team’s baskets that were assisted)

We assisted 10 of our 20 field goals = 50.0%
They assisted 19 of their 21 field goals = 90.5%

Team Offensive Efficiency
(Possessions: Field goals attempted - offensive rebounds + turnovers + 47.5% of free throws attempted. Efficiency is total points divided by possessions)

We scored 60 points in 60 possessions = 1.200 points/ possession
They scored 56 points in 60 possessions = 0.933 points/possession
It was a 120 possession game. (We are averaging 131 a game in regulation.)

Breakdown by Quarters
(Points scored between the beginning of the game and the 10 minute mark of the first half, then halftime, then the 10 minute mark of the second half, the end of regulation and then overtime of there was one)

12-11, 18-17, 9-13, 21-15

Fouls
(Two point shots and free throws attempted per times fouled.)
We attempted 29 two point shots, attempted 23 free throws and were fouled 19 times = 1.53 1.21
They attempted 20 two point shots, attempted 16 free throws and were fouled 16 times = 1.25; 0.625
They were more likely to get calls when attempting two point shots but we got more free throws out of it when fouled.

Comments:

- Ugly Ball: As a rule of thumb, A starter should have 10NP per 40 minutes and our starting line-up all played at least 34 minutes. Oshae Brissett was the only player to have 10NP. The fact that he had 22 gave a shot at winning the game. We’re going to have to get contributions from more than one guy to advance any farther.

- Bobby Hurley mentions this stat: We had 15 points off turnovers to their 4, (after 2 vs. 13 against UNC). Both teams had the same number of turnovers, (11). SU also had the edge in second chance points, giving us 24 points in unsettled situations to their 9.

- They had a big edge in their initial sets: 46 first chance points to 32 for us.

- These last two stats cancelled each other out, leaving the game to be won by the number of times we got to the line, (23 to their ten). Both teams were awful from there, (a total of 16 made in 33 attempts) but our greater number of opportunities won the game.

- In our first 30 games we led in three point field goal percentage 11 times. Since then we’ve led 4 times in a row.

- This was the first game we’ve led in fast break points since the second wake Forest game. We’d lost that stat 8 times in a row.

- Our bench hasn’t scored a point since Boston College, 5 games ago. We have 28 bench points in our last 13 games, in all of which we’ve lost that stat. You have to go to Sidibie’s game against Pitt to find a game in which our bench outscored the other team’s.
