We rebounded 13 of our 47 misses = 27.7%
They rebounded 14 of their 38 misses = 26.9%

Effective Offensive Rebounding
(Divide second chance points by the offensive rebounds)

They got 19 points on 14 O-Rebs = 1.357 points/O-reb

Unforced Turnovers
(Total turnovers – the other team’s steals = unforced turnovers)
We had 15 turnovers – 8 steals = 7 unforced
They had 12 turnovers – 3 steals = 9 unforced

Points per Takeaway
(Points off turnovers divided by the number of turnovers the other team had)
We had 12 points from 12 takeaways = 1.000 points/takeaway
They had 22 points from 15 takeaways = 1.467 points/takeaway

Unsettled Situations
(Effective offensive rebounding + Points per Takeaway: [Second Chance Point + Points off Turnovers] divided by [Offensive Rebounds + Opposition Turnovers)
We had 17 points in 25 unsettled situations = 0.680 points
They had 41 points in 29 unsettled situations = 1.414 points

Team Shooting Efficiency

(Points minus missed field goals and free throws)

We scored 95 points, missed 45 field goals and 5 missed free throws = net 45
They scored 91 points, missed 49 field goals and 7 missed free throws = net 31

(Points scored divided by potential points scored if we’d made every shot)

Fouls

(Two point shots and free throws attempted per times fouled.)

They attempted 37 two point shots, attempted 27 free throws and were fouled 20 times = 1.85; 1.35
They were more likely to get calls when attempting two point shots and they got more free throws out of it when we were fouled.

Comments

- We got our first score with a Hughes free throw at 16:58 of the first half. We hit tacos on a Howard trey at 13:28 of the second half. That means that we scored 70 points in 23 ½ minutes. That’s a rate of 119 points for 40 minutes against the #1 team in the nation.

- After the 0-12 start it was 95-79.

- It was a strange game, statistically. Points in “unsettled situations” is usually a good predictor of victory. So is “points in the paint. We lost those 17-41 and 28-44, respectively but won anyway.

- The Twilight Zone: Syracuse 20 Duke 0. And we won by 4 in overtime.

- First chance points, (each team initial attempt to score in the half court possessions): Syracuse 66 Duke 41.

- I’ve often said: assists are an opinion. Jump shots tend to produce more assists than other types of field goals. We hit 2 more treys than they did and 10 more shots from the TZ but the home team was credited with 21 assists to 13 for the ‘Cuse. We had 22 unassisted baskets. They had 10.

- We’d been averaging 135 possession games. This one was 172 possessions in regulation.
