Team Stats:
(I’ve decided to put the team that won the stat in bold and ties in italics.)

POSSESSION

Rebounding
(Add each team’s offensive rebounds to their opponent’s defensive rebounds. Then figure the offensive rebounds as a percentage of that)
We rebounded 9 of our 38 misses = 21.1%
They rebounded 8 of their 32 misses = 25.0%

Effective Offensive Rebounding
(Divide second chance points by the offensive rebounds)
We got 3 points on 9 O-Rebs = 0.333 points/O-reb
They got 7 points on 8 O-Rebs = 0.875 points/O-reb

Unforced Turnovers
(Total turnovers – the other team’s steals = unforced turnovers)
We had 17 turnovers – 13 steals = 4 unforced
They had 11 turnovers – 6 steals = 5 unforced

Points per Takeaway
(Points off turnovers divided by the number of turnovers the other team had)
We had 0 points from 11 takeaways = 0.000 points/takeaway
They had 10 points from 17 takeaways = 0.588 points/takeaway

Unsettled Situations
(Effective offensive rebounding + Points per Takeaway: [Second Chance Point + Points off Turnovers] divided by [Offensive Rebounds + Opposition Turnovers)
We had 3 points in 20 unsettled situations = 0.150 points
They had 17 points in 25 unsettled situations = 0.680 points

Manufactured Possessions
(One teams rebounds + the other team’s turnovers)
We had 33 + 11 = 44
They had 37 + 17 = 54

Scoring

Shooting
(shots made and attempted and the percentage for two point goal attempts, three point attempts and free throws)
We were 11 for 29 on twos, (37.9%), 6 for 25 on threes (24.0%) and 4 for 6 on frees (66.7%)
They were 20 for 35 on twos, (57.1%), 2 for 18 on threes (11.1%) and 14 for 16 on frees (87.5%)

Points
(PIP= points in the paint, POP = points outside the paint, which is total points – PIP –free throws made, TREY: points from three point shots, TZ= Twilight Zone, which is POP – TREY, two point jumpers from outside the paint, FBP = fast break points POTO= points off turnovers)
We had 12 PIP, 28 POP, 18 TREY, 10 TZ, 0 POTO, 4 FBP
They had 36 PIP, 10 POP, 6 TREY, 4 TZ, 10 POTO, 12 FBP

Fast Break Percentage
(FBP/(defensive rebounds + blocks + steals)
We scored 4 FBP in 33 opportunities (12.1%)
They scored 12 FBP in 45 opportunities (26.7%)

First Chance/Second Chance
(FCP is First Chance Points, which is total points - second chance points – fast break points – free throws made. SCP is second chance points.)
We had 33 FCP and 3 SCP
They had 27 FCP and 7 SCP

Last Possessions
(Points scored on the last full possession of a half, a game or an overtime period.)
We scored 0 points
They scored 2 points

Starters/Bench
(Total points – bench points = starters points)
Our starters scored 39 points and our bench scored 5 points
Their starters scored 35 points and their bench scored 26 points

Assists
(The percentage of a team’s baskets that were assisted)
We assisted 12 of our 17 field goals = 70.6%
They assisted 16 of their 22 field goals = 72.7%

Team Offensive Efficiency
(Possessions: Field goals attempted - offensive rebounds + turnovers + 47.5% of free throws attempted. efficiency is total points divided by possessions)
We scored 44 points in 65 possessions = 0.677 points/ possession
They scored 60 points in 64 possessions = 0.9375 points/possession
It was a 129 possession game. (We are averaging 131 a game in regulation.)

Breakdown by Quarters
(Points scored between the beginning of the game and the 10 minute mark of the first half, then halftime, then the 10 minute mark of the second half, the end of regulation and then overtime of there was one)
8-14, 8-13, 12-10, 16-23

Fouls
(Two point shots and free throws attempted per times fouled.)
We attempted 29 two point shots, attempted 6 free throws and were fouled 10 times = 2.90; 0.60
They attempted 35 two point shots, attempted 16 free throws and were fouled 14 times = 2.50; 1.14
They were more likely to get calls when attempting two point shots and got more free throws out of it when fouled.

Comments:

- I have been keeping track of “net points” for years. I don’t think I have ever seen a -12NP game, or anything close to it. Oshae Brissett, who still leads the team in NP and averages +14 a game, scored 6 points, had only 2 rebounds, no assists teals or blocks, was 2 for 13 from the field, never got to the foul line and had 6 turnovers and 3 fouls. That’s the worst game I have ever seen by an SU player and it comes from one of the best players on this team.

- We have averaged 26 points per game from unsettled situations, (offensive rebounds and turnovers), 23 in conference. We’ve averaged 1.032 points per unsettled situation. We had 3 points in 20 unsettled situations in this game, 0.150 per situation. That included no points off 11 takeaways. None!

- We actually outscored Duke 33-27 in our opening sets, (first chance points). But we were -4 in second chance points, -10 from the line and -8 on fast breaks.
