Team Stats:
(I’ve decided to put the team that won the stat in bold and ties in italics.)

POSSESSION

Rebounding
(Add each team’s offensive rebounds to their opponent’s defensive rebounds. Then figure the offensive rebounds as a percentage of that)

We rebounded 9 of our 32 misses = 28.1%
They rebounded 8 of their 31 misses = 25.8%

Effective Offensive Rebounding
(Divide second chance points by the offensive rebounds)

We got 12 points on 9 O-Rebs = 1.333 points/O-reb
They got 15 points on 8 O-Rebs = 1.875 points/ O-reb

Unforced Turnovers
(Total turnovers – the other team’s steals = unforced turnovers)

We had 8 turnovers – 3 steals = 5 unforced
They had 11 turnovers – 4 steals = 7 unforced

Points per Takeaway
(Points off turnovers divided by the number of turnovers the other team had)

We had 20 points from 11 takeaways = 1.818 points/takeaway
They had 9 points from 8 takeaways = 1.125 points/takeaway

Unsettled Situations
(Effective offensive rebounding + Points per Takeaway: [Second Chance Point + Points off Turnovers] divided by [Offensive Rebounds + Opposition Turnovers)

We had 32 points in 20 unsettled situations = 1.600 points
They had 24 points in 16 unsettled situations = 1.500 points

Manufactured Possessions
(One teams rebounds + the other team’s turnovers)

We had 32 + 11 = 43
They had 31 + 8= 39

Scoring

Shooting
(shots made and attempted and the percentage for two point goal attempts, three point attempts and free throws)

We were 19 for 40 on twos, (47.5%), 6 for 13 on threes (46.2%) and 22 for 29 on frees (75.9%)
They were 19 for 31 on twos, (61.3%), 5 for 21 on threes (23.8%) and 20 for 26 on frees (76.9%)

Points
(PIP= points in the paint, POP = points outside the paint, which is total points – PIP –free throws made, TREY: points from three point shots, TZ= Twilight Zone, which is POP – TREY, two point jumpers from outside the paint, FBP = fast break points POTO= points off turnovers)

We had 30 PIP, 26 POP, 18 TREY, 8 TZ, 20 POTO, 2 FBP
They had 34 PIP, 19 POP, 15 TREY, 4 TZ, 9 POTO, 4 FBP

Fast Break Percentage
(FBP/(defensive rebounds + blocks + steals)

We scored 2 FBP in 27 opportunities (7.4%)
They scored 4 FBP in 27 opportunities (14.8%)

First Chance/Second Chance
(FCP is First Chance Points, which is total points - second chance points – fast break points – free throws made. SCP is second chance points.)

We had 42 FCP and 12 SCP
They had 34 FCP and 15 SCP

Starters/Bench
(Total points – bench points = starters points)

Our starters scored 76 points and our bench scored 2 points
Their starters scored 39 points and their bench scored 34 points

Assists
(The percentage of a team’s baskets that were assisted)

We assisted 9 of our 25 field goals = 36.0%
They assisted 17 of their 24 field goals = 70.8%

Team Offensive Efficiency
(Possessions: Field goals attempted - offensive rebounds + turnovers + 47.5% of free throws attempted. Efficiency is total points divided by possessions)

We scored 78 points in 66 possessions = 1.182 points/ possession
They scored 73 points in 67 possessions = 1.089 points/possession
It was a 133 possession game. (We are averaging 132 a game in regulation.)

Breakdown by Quarters
(Points scored between the beginning of the game and the 10 minute mark of the first half, then halftime, then the 10 minute mark of the second half, the end of regulation and then overtime of there was one)

19-18, 20-15, 20-20, 19-20

Fouls
(Two point shots, points in paint and free throws attempted per times fouled.)

We attempted 40 two point shots, scored 30 points in the paint, attempted 29 free throws and were fouled 20 times = 2.00; 1.50; 1.45
They attempted 31 two point shots, scored 34 points in the paint, attempted 26 free throws and were fouled 19 times = 1.63; 1.79; 1.37

They were more likely to get calls when attempting two point shots but we were more likely to be fouled scoring in the paint and we got more free throws out of it when fouled. The differences were minimal.

Comments:

- Since Pascahl Chukwu slipped to 13.9NP per 40 minutes we now have no one who is averaging 14 NP per 40. Our leader is usually in the upper teens or 20’s. We have no real star player. But we do have 7 guys in double figures when Sidibie is healthy.

- The two teams got a total of 27 second chance points on only 17 offensive rebounds, a very high number. (27/17= 1.588, the season average for both teams being 0.920).

- Louisville likes to press and we had only 8 turnovers, a big key to our success in this game.

- After having a total of 9 points off turnovers in the Pittsburgh and Georgia tech games, we had 14 against Virginia and 20 in this game. We are starting to beat teams down court again.
