Offensive Dude of the Game, (O-Dog)

Frank Howard 18p + 4a = 22

Scoring Efficiency
(Points minus field goal and free throw attempts)

Frank Howard 18p – 9mfg – 1mft = 8

Sat Us Down

2nd Half- Tyus Battle jumper 19:14 in

TACO Bell MVP
(Who scored the point that got us to 70, which gets you free tacos with your ticket stub)

We went hungry.

My Man
(Who played the most minutes?)

Frank Howard and Oshae Brissett 40 minutes
(Brissett was credited with “40-“ meaning he was out for less than a minute. My policy is that he played in 40 minutes so I’ll count it as 40.)

Team Stats:
(I’ve decided to put the team that won the stat in bold and ties in italics.)

POSSESSION

Rebounding
(Add each team’s offensive rebounds to their opponent’s defensive rebounds. Then figure the offensive rebounds as a percentage of that)

We rebounded 7 of our 31 misses = 22.6%
They rebounded 4 of their 27 misses = 14.8%

Effective Offensive Rebounding
(Divide second chance points by the offensive rebounds)

We got 9 points on 7 O-Rebs = 1.286 points/O-reb
They got 1 points on 4 O-Rebs = 0.250 points/ O-reb

Unforced Turnovers
(Total turnovers – the other team’s steals = unforced turnovers)

We had 10 turnovers – 5 steals = 5 unforced
They had 18 turnovers – 10 steals = 8 unforced

Points per Takeaway
(Points off turnovers divided by the number of turnovers the other team had)

We had 16 points from 18 takeaways = 0.889 points/takeaway
They had 6 points from 10 takeaways = 0.600 points/takeaway

Unsettled Situations
(Effective offensive rebounding + Points per Takeaway: [Second Chance Point + Points off Turnovers] divided by [Offensive Rebounds + Opposition Turnovers)

We had 25 points in 25 unsettled situations = 1.000 points
They had 7 points in 14 unsettled situations = 0.500 points

Manufactured Possessions
(One teams rebounds + the other team’s turnovers)

We had 30 + 18 = 48
They had 28 + 10= 38

Scoring

Shooting
(Shots made and attempted and the percentage for two point goal attempts, three point attempts and free throws)

We were 17 for 33 on twos, (51.5%), 5 for 18 on threes (27.8%) and 10 for 12 on frees (83.3%)
They were 6 for 17 on twos, (35.3%), 8 for 23 on threes (34.8%) and 9 for 11 on frees (81.8%)

Points
(PIP= points in the paint, POP = points outside the paint, which is total points – PIP –free throws made, TREY: points from three point shots, TZ= Twilight Zone, which is POP – TREY, two point jumpers from outside the paint, FBP = fast break points POTO= points off turnovers)

We had 28 PIP, 21 POP, 15 TREY, 6 TZ, 16 POTO, 4 FBP
They had 12 PIP, 24 POP, 24 TREY, 0 TZ, 6 POTO, 6 FBP

Fast Break Percentage
(FBP/(defensive rebounds + blocks + steals)

We scored 4 FBP in 37 opportunities (10.8%)
They scored 6 FBP in 31 opportunities (19.4%)

First Chance/Second Chance
(FCP is First Chance Points, which is total points - second chance points – fast break points – free throws made. SCP is second chance points.)

We had 36 FCP and 9 SCP
They had 29 FCP and 1 SCP

Starters/Bench
(Total points – bench points = starters points)
Our starters scored 57 points and our bench scored 2 points
Their starters scored 38 points and their bench scored 7 points

Assists
(The percentage of a team’s baskets that were assisted)
We assisted 11 of our 22 field goals = 50.0%
They assisted 10 of their 14 field goals = 71.4%

Team Offensive Efficiency
(Possessions: Field goals attempted - offensive rebounds + turnovers + 47.5% of free throws attempted. Efficiency is total points divided by possessions)
We scored 59 points in 60 possessions = 0.983 points/ possession
They scored 45 points in 59 possessions = 0.763 points/possession
It was a 119 possession game. (We are averaging 134 a game in regulation.)

Breakdown by Quarters
(Points scored between the beginning of the game and the 10 minute mark of the first half, then halftime, then the 10 minute mark of the second half, the end of regulation and then overtime of there was one)

14-9, 13-13, 10-10, 22-13

Fouls
(Two point shots, points in paint and free throws attempted per times fouled.)
We attempted 33 two point shots, scored 28 points in the paint, attempted 12 free throws and were fouled 16 times = 2.06; 1.75; 0.75
They attempted 17 two point shots, scored 12 points in the paint, attempted 11 free throws and were fouled 13 times = 1.31; 0.92; 0.85
They were more likely to get calls when attempting two point shots or scoring in the paint and got more free throws out of it when fouled.

Comments:

- It was not a game for offensive rebounding, unless you consider a lack of offensive rebounding to be “offensive”. The two teams grabbed 11 of 58 misses, (19%).

- Even so, the fact that Pitt got 1 second chance point is amazing. I wonder if DeJuan Blair was watching.

- Florida State had 56 points in unsettled situations. Pitt had 7.

- We led in first chance points for the fourth game in a row. In ACC play we are 4-1-1 in this stat and have out-scored the opposition 210-200. That means that our initial sets are not the problem, (which doesn’t mean they couldn’t be better).

- Parker Stewart not only scored 23 of Pitt’s 45 points: he scored 23 of their 38 points from the starting line-up. That’s 60.5%. The other starters scored 7, 6, 2 and 0 points. Stewart himself came in averaging only 7.4 points per game.
