Take all the positives: points, rebounds, assists, steals and blocks and subtract the negatives: missed field goals, miss free throws, turnovers and fouls. The result is “Net Points.” (NP). M = minutes.
Dion Waiters +5NP in 10M season: +135NP in 256M per 40M: +21.1NP
Kris Joseph +18NP in 29M season: +168NP in 348M per 40M: +19.3NP
Scoop Jardine +18NP in 29M season: +131NP in 262M per 40M: +20.0NP
Fab Melo +16NP in 27M season: +98NP in 276M per 40M: +14.2NP
Rakeem Christmas +11NP in 14M season: +49NP in 153M per 40M: +12.8NP
Brandon Triche +7NP in 15M season: +101NP in 261M per 40M: +15.5NP
Michael Carter-Williams +7NP in 22M season: +52NP in 147M per 40M: +14.1NP
CJ Fair +6NP in 19M season: +109NP in 288M per 40M: +15.1NP
James Southerland +4NP in 14M season: +117NP in 189M per 40M: +24.8NP
Baye Moussa Keita +2NP in 11M season: +51NP in 146M per 40M: +14.0NP
Mookie Jones 0NP in 0M season: 0NP in 26M per 40M: 0.0NP

Comment: Scoop Jardine is having a strong run since he was waving that towel at the end of the Stanford game in New York he‘s had 91NP in 150 minutes (24.3). Baye Moussa Keita had 37NP in 49 minutes, (30.2) before we went to New York and has 14 in 97 minutes since, (5.8).

Shooting Breakdown: SU was 20/36 from inside the arc, (.556), 8/17 from outside, (.471) and 16/21 from the line (.762). George Washington was 15/37 (.405), 7/22, (.318). and 10/12, (.833) 19 of our 28 baskets were assisted, (68%), vs. 19 of Bucknell’s 22, (86%).

Rebounding: Syracuse had 10 offensive and 26 defensive rebounds. Bucknell had 12 offensive and 18 defensive rebounds. That means that when we missed, we got the rebound 36% of the time. When they missed, they got the rebound 32% of the time. Bucknell had 12 turnovers, of which 10 were Syracuse steals, (83%). Syracuse had 11 turnovers of which 6 were Bucknell steals, (55%). We had 48 “manufactured” possessions, (our rebounds + their turnovers). They had 41.

And, thanks to Blacksquirrels and Knicks411, I now understand how to compute “points per possession, (field goal attempts – offensive rebounds + turnovers plus 47.5% of free throws attempted) and here they are:

Syracuse: 53 FGA minus 10 offensive rebounds plus 11 turnovers plus 47.5% of 21 free throws = 63.975 possessions. The possessions can’t be more than one off so I’ll call that 64 possessions in which we scored 80 points or 1.313 points per possession. For the season it’s 1.180.

Bucknell: 59-12+12 plus 47.5% of 12 = 64.7 possessions. Let’s call that 65 possessions, (so we won’t be more than one off) in which they scored 61 points or 0.938 points per possession. For the season it’s 0.861.

Dry stretches were a problem last year- we’d go 8-10 minutes with the offense not functioning. I decided it should be a goal to score at least 15 points in every 10 minute “quarter” of the game, (college is the only level that doesn’t have quarters). You want to score more than that, of course, but if we can avoid falling under 15 in any ten minute period we should have a good scoring average because we’ll have 20 and 25 point quarters as well. The “quarterly” splits in this game were 19-8, 20-14, 18-20, 23-19. We’ve had 6 sub 15 point quarters this year and lost 9 quarters (of 48).

12-0 and 19 to go

LET’S GO ORANGE!!!
